Basillo is allegedly saying, his unamed sources are reporting that Jones' family have convinced him that the environment in Knoxville is "too toxic" and his people are "negotiating" his buyout... either after Bama or Kentucky. Paraphrasing of course.

Why would he offer to take less money than what he is already going to get for what is going to happen regardless of what he can do to change it?

No way Butch coaches against Bama. Even if he’s willing, Currie ain’t allowing a checked out coach to represent UT.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
What's more important to Butch?
1. The amount of buyout money.
2. Getting himself and his family out of Toxicville.

Currie is playing hardball with him right now.
I wonder just how far he is willing to let it drag on until he gets Butch to agree to the terms Tennessee wants?

And right there is the reason Mr. Currie has slow played this.

Nashville radio this morning said there was a clause in his contract stating if he didn't make a bowl game it would reduce his buyout. Anyone else heard of this?

To save his career. He needs to get out now or no one will ever hire him. I want Butch to be successful in the future, so hopefully this can end well for all parties involved.

Yup. He's smart...but it's not rocket science either. We've been discussing this for several days now.

My company's last GM was a disaster. She hated my guts, so I let her hang herself until she resigned...and I was left not having to pay her unemployement cuz she quit. Cost me some headaches during that time, but saved me a long term effect.

Essentially, Butch's buyout is his unemployment check.

Too toxic?? I really really hope that people aren't being straight a**holes to the Jones family. This is football which is emotional and all that, but they haven't done anything to warrant disrespect.

I agree. He seems like a good man, and I feel for his family. He’s just not a great coach, and that’s what we need.

I believe that its more the fact that the vast majority of the fan base is questioning his system, questioning his ability to coach, and questioning the reasons why he hasn't been fired. Along with things like "The official Butch Jones has been fired" thread. Countless articles by national outlets saying he's done in Knoxville. Social Media calls for him to be fired and the like as opposed to anyone being a-holes to his family.

I don't see anyone bad mouthing his kids, or his wife, or his personal lifestyle so much as everyone bashing his coaching ability. In that the atmosphere is very toxic her in Knoxvegas for someone who may or may not want to continue with their job.

I would like to shake the hand of the man responsible for that clause.

This is working out really well for everyone. Now if we can just land gruden

Smart of Butch to negotiate buyout as well so he can move on and coach again

The terms of a buyout would be spelled out in the contract in the event the coach is fired. However, the coach choosing to quit is an entirely different matter. The buyout should be less in that instance.

Seriously. If I were him I would pull up an umbrella and a lawn chair on the sideline until they fired me.

You're done. As done as any coach has ever been done. Relax. Enjoy the ride. And wait for that 12 million dollar check.

He did steal 20-25 mil from UT.

Technically the school willingly gave it to him, so he didn’t steal anything. Has he greatly underachieved? Of course, but that’s no reason for a few jack wagon fans to be ugly to his family. Any of us would agree to that kind of money!

I meant he stole it, as in he didnt produce what he was hired for. I was playing.
