I think we've beat to death the head coach candidates in the college ranks.

I wanted to do some digging on guys currently in the pros who may be an option:

Jim Bob Cooter we all know about.

Mike Vrabel, Texans DC: probably unlikely because he's going to be an NFL head coach soon. Does have coaching experience at Ohio State.

Harold Goodwin, Arizona OC: born in South Carolina, spent first 8 years of his coaching career in college. He's been Arizona's OC for 5 years and has interviewed for head coaching jobs at other places. It may be too late for him in the NFL as their offense has been very bad this year.

Robert Saleh, 49ers DC: he spent his first 4 years as a college assistant. He spent a year with Georgia in '05. This is his first year as a defensive coordinator so I doubt his name comes up in any NFL head coach searches.

I am pulling for the Texas to fail and bill obrien be available. You see I ain't a Texans fan so I can cheer for failure

It's all just evidence why this fanbase deserves nothing. We are just fat old guys that drink beer at tailgates and act like we somehow deserve something. We aren't owed anything.

Speak for yourself, man. Most UT fans I know are loyal to a fault, give generously to the University (whether through donations or merchandise), freely promote UT nearly everywhere they go (and, as mentioned above, pay for the privilege), deck their homes, inside and out, with UT decor, and help boost the local economy every year. And most of us are good people, whether it suits your current agenda or not.

We may not be owed the moon, but we are owed a sincere effort by the university to be good at football.

Lol. He's a disgusting excuse for a fan. Like many others in this fanbase.

Lol. Just as I suspected. Hey may have said it on the front end, but I don't see any evidence of follow through. Just like when a poster dramatically tells everyone they are quitting the board forever, but then comes back.

I honestly don't know any more. The whole thing is a mess.

I road the elevator down with Coach Scott and the other offensive personnel after the game and it was sad to see just how defeated they were. Coach Scott had his head down with hands over his head. Also, it seems that on that final play Kelly wasn't supposed to block and was instead supposed to release into the flat.

People forget real people are doing their best to win these games.

That is sad. I hate it for the whole staff

Hmm... I remember cheering the Vols loudly on that final drive, mad as crap that we didn’t score and win the game. Mad that Butch didn’t let JG play all game along with Callaway. And then hoping Butch is fired.

But we can also do better.

Enough with settling.

Do you want this to be an elite program once again? Or another Nebraska? And given our growing instate talent pool, it would be embarrassing to go the way of Nebraska because they at least have a legit excuse for not being great anymore. They don't have any players.

What's Tennessee's excuse for being a laughing stock?

Our fans.

I like JG but the immature spoiled comment is spot on IMO. I am fortunate enough to attend a spring practice every year and that is exactly how I described him to a couple of my buddies. During drills he while others were giving 85% he was giving 60% and I heard him complaining to a GA about the drills they were doing. QD had what appeared to me a "blue collar" approach and I got the vibe that JG's actions and body language showed a sense of entitlement. Those were just my observations and opinions.

However I like most of what I saw from JG Saturday considering the situation he's been put in. I wish he'd scramble a bit more so he could get out of the pocket and throw the ball away. Not even scramble for a gain all the time. I'm hoping his internal clock will improve. Lord knows it needs to before next week because our O-line is probably going to look like Swiss cheese against Alabama.
Agree with all of this. I will say JG manned up in the post game press conference and took blame, even on the last throw.

There is a longtime respected poster on VQ (not VN) who's wife is related to Cindy Gruden. He's been sharing info saying basically Currie is going after him, Peyton is involved, Gruden is very interested, he believes he will coach again, ball is in his court. UT is going all in.

I shared his first post on it the other day in here and I think you shared it in the Gruden thread.

This poster might be getting bad info (it happens) but he's not lying. And he never said Gruden would 100% be the coach at UT next fall, he just said UT is trying to make that happen and Gruden is listening.

I prolly did lol. I just really really want Gruden to be next coach.

What pissed you off this morning Bruin? We are all here because we love this university and its football program. Many of us give our hard earned money and lots of time to it also, so I disagree that we aren't owed something in return for that loyalty. We deserve to see a once proud program return to its former glory and dominance. And it is crystal clear that will never happen under Butch.

Vrabel def on his way to being an NFL HC.

Being a Niners fan, Saleh has been impressive. No idea how he has a competent defense with that roster. Niners going to be winning big in next yr or two once they complete that roster. Shanahan is a heck of a coach. Has them so close. Guy has freaking CJ Bethard looking like he can be a good NFL QB yesterday

Curious what type of offense Ole Miss runs? Can anyone speak to that?

I haven’t seen a game of theirs this year
