Do you guys really think we could hire Jeff Brohm?

Purdue loaned Brohm $900,000 to cover his buyout from WKU. They forgive $150k of it each year on Dec 31st. He has a 6 year deal with Purdue so if he stays 6 years the loan is completely forgiven.

Purdue is committed to providing him $3.5m/year for assistant coaches.

His buyout to leave on his own is $5m before 12/5/2017 and $4m after that and until 12/5/2018 plus he has to pay back any remaining balance on the WKU buyout loan.

His 6-year contract provides a salary of $3.3m/year with perks and a bonus package per year worth $1.5m but the bonuses have to be earned.

Perks:

Country Club membership

· Car allowance of $1,250/month

· Income from HS camps.

· $20,000/year of Nike gear

· Eight Purdue Football season tickets and 8 suite tickets

· 25 tickets per game for “business use”

· 2 lower arena season tickets for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball

· Spouse and child travel to away games.

· Moving costs

· The Purdue jet for recruiting purposes


Bonus package (% of $1.5m)

6% performance base bonus for exceeding the national Graduation Success Rate

· 3% performance base bonus meeting GPA expectations outlines by the athletic director

· 10% performance base bonus for winning the Big Ten championship

· 6% performance base bonus for winning the Big Ten West (even if we tie for it)

· 3% performance base bonus for finishing 2nd in the Big Ten West

· 7.5% performance base bonus for 6 regular season wins and a bowl bid

· 10% performance base bonus for 7 regular season wins and a bowl bid

· 12% performance base bonus for 8 regular season wins and a bowl bid

· 18% performance base bonus for reaching the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, peach, or Sugar Bowls when they are not in the college football playoff

· 25% performance base bonus for reaching the Rose bowl if it is not on the College Football playoff.

· 40% performance base bonus for reaching the College Football Playoff

· 3% performance base bonus if we have a top 25 recruiting class according to any of the major recruiting services

· 5% performance base bonus as Big Ten Coach of the Year

· 10% performance base bonus as National Coach of the Year

I don't think anyone sees him as a tier 1 coach so what are we going to offer. $3.5 - 4m plus pay around $5m for his buyout & loan if we wait until after 12/5/17.

What would that say about him to be one and done at Purdue?

Somehow I don't think he's all that much of a realistic option.

Idk why you keep bringing up Scott. Idc if Kyle shannahan is our offensive coordinator it’s gonna be virtually the same offense as it has been for 5 years. Of course there’s gonna be new dimensions especially when you have a running qb like Dobbs.

And yes, it's Butch's offense and will remain, at its core, the same. But both Bajakian and Debord did much more within Butch's scheme (Bajakian with less talent, no less). I don't doubt that Butch is a micromanager. But I also don't buy that Scott is helpless to do anything but run bland plays (aside from our screen game, which has been nice) and telegraph run/pass based on the personnel we put on the field.


Bajakian and Debord were predictable under Butch because defenses usually knew how they wanted to attack based on down and distance. Scott is predictable because of that AND because his run plays lack all misdirection AND because defenses can tell whether we're going to pass or run based on who he trots out onto the field.

I see UT making a run at Gruden to appease the fan base and him graciously turning us down for PR. I would be tickled with a Frost hire, but I worry about Nebraska making a run at him if we wait. Brohm feels a lot like a Butch hire. Could be better but way less proven.

What my real not made up friend told me today that it is getting tougher to keep him but don't think he gets fired until they are confident about who they are going to get. If they fire him then they feel really good about who they get. Like we have heard even on here, they want to have their guy before they get rid of CBJ. Do not want to give leverage to any possible candidates and then get hung out to dry. Currie seems to be handling this better than Hart ever did.

We may not get the bigger name guys but we are at least handling things the way to give us and UT the best chance to not get screwed.

I don't think it's fair to pass judgement on any of our QB's when the line play is so poor. Whichever one is in has multiple defenders in their face as soon as they drop back.

Sure. In a scenario where any coach is guaranteed to be the next Meyer I'll take him.

Urbans success was not gauranteed either, no one's is, but the ingredients to become dominant were all there. I think Frost has those ingredients also.

IDT there really was a legit QB competition. QD was CBJ's guy from spring till this week. Who knows how much JG can develop or how good he can be? If we can pull a great 2018 QB, he could have a shot at playing as a FR. QD almost certainly will transfer.

He was the youngest person admitted to the Nurse Anesthesia program at UT based on GPA and GRE.

When have I ever loved QD??? Go back and check my posts even from spring practice. You will see where I said JG isn’t as fast as everyone is thinking. Which is correct. He has a good arm but lacks touch. Which is correct. I said QD would be the starter which was correct. I have nothing for or against either QB.

You've also said that QD "should" be the starter at times, which is/was debatable at best.

And I still stood behind it. QD did good things against GT and Florida. If JG is the starter from day one I don’t see our record being any different. I’ve said all along I think either QB is very good.

Yup. That's who I think of as well when I see Scott Frost.

He could be a legendary coach here at Tennessee with the resources we have. A smart AD would have a presentation ready to sell him on why Tennessee is a significantly better job for him as a young coach than Nebraska.

We have the instate talent pool to be a perennial national title contender. Nebraska doesn't. Somebody needs to educate John Currie on this fact.

Would be very very confident in Frost if we hired him. Young Urban Meyer written all over him.

I remember last time we did this. Round and round we went ranking the names of potential candidates.

And then butch jones was announced

Tennessee is a lot more attractive as a job today than it was in 2012.

In 2012 the roster had almost no talent on it. Tennessee as a state was also producing little in the way of elite college football talent.

Now we have a talent laden roster filled with kids from 2 top 5 recruiting classes and another 2 top 15 recruiting classes. The state of Tennessee is now recruiting hotbed with 20 players currently rated as composite 4-stars in the 2019 recruiting class. That's 5th most in the nation after Florida, Georgia, Texas, and California. And the 2020 class is projected to be even more talented.

A top 5 recruiting based and a top 10-15 team based on pure talent. What coach wouldn't want that?

Tennessee is way more attractive as a job in 2017 than it was in 2012. Way more.

You see what you want to see. I saw zero touchdowns. I saw a QB run out of bounds 10 yards behind the LOS when he could have easily thrown it away. I saw a QB hold the ball too long and take sacks.

I agree that he can be better. My point stands. Y'all blame QD for QD, and Butch for JG. Nate Peterman sucked all the way to the NFL.

We had zero turnovers. My first rule for my QB is to protect my football. He almost didn't but he had no turnovers. And yes, even a high school maybe even middle school QB knows he should throw that ball away. Bet JG does as well. However, it was his first start in a big SEC game even if SC is bad. He has a chance to get better but QD will never get better if he will not step into throws. I have always wanted to best QB and was pulling for QD until I just could not anymore. It was time for someone else to get a chance.
