They kind of were. I followed that thread enough to know the general tenor, and it wasn't: "Ok, boosters have lined up an offer, Gruden is interested, let's see if the administration can get this done." It was: "Gruden WILL be next coach. Done deal. 99.9%. MOU is signed. Just have to wait for MNF season to end. Etc."

I'm not saying Gruden in 2012 was a complete fairy tale, but the OGs definitely oversold how close we were.

I think people (esp the people sharing info) just put too much stock in the word of people who didn’t have final say.

UK is a must win for what? To prolong his agony until the end of the season?

To keep the team invested, hold the recruiting class together and prevent the season from going historically bad. Sad, but the goal seems to have become to make a bowl game. Of course, that was probably CBJ's goal all along-- to keep the bowl streak alive.

Queue “ Tennessee hasn’t won 4 straight bowls against 4 different teams since World War Two” type of statement

Surely you don't mean Butch is safe at 6-6?

We aren't beating Kentucky. Mark Stoops hasn't beaten Butch yet and would relish the opportunity to get a W vs Tennessee.

I think they may have connections to some lower-level boosters who get third-hand info themselves. By the time it gets to us it has been twisted until it's unrecognizable and mostly false.

Not being FOS, to me anyways, means evaluating the reliability of your sources before stating that your third hand news is gospel.

I don't hate them or anything, but I would treat anything they say, especially re: Gruden, with a healthy amount of skepticism.

I do think he wants out. UT has met with counsel. Those meetings are privileged and not disclosed because no action is taken. They generally run the numbers for various scenarios. The BOT could meet by teleconference in the morning. I'd be surprised if that happens. But these situations are always fluid.

An interim plan is in place, if it comes to that. The Bama game isn't really a factor. Everyone's looking toward UK. That's the must-win.

Not a knock on you by any means, but I think there is getting to be a bit of "must win" fatigue. We are losing all of these "must wins," and nothing apparent is happening. I'm positive I wouldn't be privy to when the wheels go in motion, but as of this juncture, I'm operating under the assumption that there are no "must wins" and Butch will coach through the Vandy game.

Making a bowl game would keep the season from being a complete failure, IMO.

If our interim (whenever he takes over) can get us to 6-7 wins and a trip to the Liberty Bowl or Music City Bowl, we'll get a nice little payout and 15 extra practices. Missing out on that puts the next coach at a slight disadvantage, IMO.

No. I'm taking CBJ out of the equation. Most people consider Bama an inevitable loss and want to salvage the winnable games. Since UT has only lost to UK once in three decades, we need to get the season back on track in Lexington and fight to finish no worse than 6-6. I find that as distasteful as anyone, but that's where we're at-- trying to avoid a losing season.

Do you think he’ll coach the Missouri game?
