Kirby has GA looking really good, Florida is not going to stick with McElwain for much longer. Saban is not going anywhere. We have got to get a GREAT head coach or we are going to be stuck in mediocrity for a long long long time.

Patterson is going to be a very tough pull.

Meanwhile Chip Kelly checking his phone every 2 minutes

Our AD has to know that this is the hire of his life so far. If Gruden is absolutely out of the question, then we have to go after Kelly. I don't want Florida getting him.

I hate to say it but this isn't even mediocrity. Mediocrity would've been squeaking out a win against SC, then beating UK and Vandy to get to a crappy bowl game. I'm not sure we even beat either of them.

I have figured out the difference in the calls. The being alone time is usually only a day or two. The other is longer, sometimes quite a bit longer. That is the part that is hard to understand. I know it can't be easy on him, but he still keeps on doing it. He says he's doing it for us. Can't someone else do it now? He's too old and doesn't need to anymore, right?

There are other people that can do it, but probably not as well as him. And, since he feels he is still needed, he has to keep doing it. It's in his DNA. And, when he says he is doing it for you, or for all of us, he truly means it.

I'm not sure that we make a bowl this year.

Husband just texted. said he's called our pilot and is leaving Knoxville. He said he spoke his mind, using his I guess renowned colorful language, and the rest is up to the others. He seemed pretty upset, but I can't be sure. He keeps the Tennessee football side of things pretty tight, just like he does other things. I don't know if that means anything to you guys or not. My husband can be hard to read sometimes. Ok. Most of the time.

He called your pilot? Holy Moly.

Thoughts on the game:

1. Noon kickoff and no sunblock again. When will I learn?

2. No complaints about the effort. The team played hard and showed energy throughout. Was a very chippy game.

3. JG looked dynamic. The handcuffs were just on too tight.

4. 3 negatives: OL play, WR play, and the awful awful playcalling.

5. Defensively our kids played their hearts out. We are only playing 15-17 guys on defense and they were on the field the whole second half. Keeping USCjr out of the end zone save for once was gritty and tough.

6. Trevor Daniel has become inconsistent, and it's hurting us.

7. JG looked like a gamer on that final drive. His future could be bright.

8. John Kelly is wasted in the scheme. Poor blocking and play calling.

9. The stadium was surprisingly packed. I had counted on 75-80k but I'd suspect there were 90-95k there. The fans were loud and positive all day. Everyone there wanted a breakthrough, it just never came.

10. Postgane mood around the Market and Gay street was quiet and somber - everyone knows what must be done. Like putting a sick dog out of its misery.

11. Good showing by the USCjr fan base. They cheer on their team and aren't obnoxious like some other fan bases (Okay, like Florida).

Here's to hoping we hear some news from the vet today.

What are you talking about? What game were you watching? His passes weren't off like that. His pocket presence wasn't good which is to be expected right now. But he was much more competent and "ready" than the starter.

Coach has to take the reigns off. The last pass was better than anything Dormady has thrown. WR has to make that catch with the game on the line.

The only criticism I have on JG is that he stood in the pocket too long a couple of times. I think he gets better at that with more experience. His throws, when he was allowed to make them, looked very good.

I think a competent coach could have put him in better situations . He has a cannon. Quick passes . No imagination on the coaching staff. Kinda makes you wonder if Dormady is also a victim of the staff.

My opinion, any QB is going to look worse in a horrible scheme and little blocking. Guarantano still knows that throwing the ball away is better than taking a sack.
He's just trying really hard to prove himself and make a lot happen. It was also his first start at a young age. I believe he will improve upon the little things with experience and maturity. He's just having to learn through trial by fire instead of development.

But I definitely agree with your point. The fact that Dormady looked better in the first game against Georgia Tech than he did against UMass, paints an unkind picture of what the qb's are dealing with.

What category was Kirby upon his hire? Doubt it fell under “GREAT”...doubt it still does. Point is hiring a great head coach lies more with potential. Most who’ve EARNED the label ain’t moving. Take your McElwain mention. Why didn’t Florida just hire a great HC to start with? :)

Made some really good decisions for a freshman.
