Give me your Top 3 canidates...

Robert R. Neyland
Vince Lombardi
Bud Wilkinson

That list makes as much sense as the ones that include Bob Stoops, Chip Kelley, and Peterson from UW.

Realistically, you are looking at a pool that would include Jeff Brohm, Venables, and Mike MacIntyre. That's about the level that UT would go after and any of those would be better than what we have had since Fulmer.

and we will regret it like our last few hires

Two great options... all the more reason to make a change ASAP.

The longer this thing is drawn out, the more I think Brohm is the guy. If it were Kelly, we'd have nothing to lose and much to gain by making the change NOW.

If it's Brohm, you have to let him finish the season or you run the risk of a leak getting to his players (ala Houston last year) and the players quitting on him mid-season (ala Houston last year). If Brohm's the guy, we need WKU to finish strong.... the hire would make a bigger splash that way; generating much needed momentum.

He is at Purdue!

Chip Kelly has a show cause in the not too distant past, all we need is for the NCAA to end up on probation in the future. You think we have problems now? Be careful who you wish for.

Gundy.

The man's hair would play phenomenally in Knoxville.

Going from Sgt Carter to Billy Ray Cyrus would be a massive upgrade.

Some insight into possible coaches. Says Fuente and Kelly are out. They hate the SEC pressure, and that Morris is holding out for TAMU, and Frost for Nebraska. Also, Tennessee will never touch Patrino (Everyone will tell you that). These are all things I've been telling you.

If not Butch, then whom ...? — Travis Haney

Probably the best write up I have seen on the subject to date.

Thanks for posting.

Brohm is a drama queen. He has done very well and won games and played games well, but he is just getting figured out. When he is figured out will be as good? He loves to do things like throw chairs in the locker room and he is REALLY BIG on slogans like "row the boat".

venables is the number one guy, but he is in line for Clemson head coach as soon as saban retires. Can we pull him away? maybe, but you are going to over pay for him... will UT do that?

I'm beginning to think DJ Durkin is a great hire, but I don't know what it would take to buy him.

In 2015 Jon Gruden had this to say about the UT coaching job when it opened after the 2012 season:

Tennessee is a dream job for a lot of people, me included. Timing wasn't right.

Jon Gruden: Coaching Tennessee Volunteers a 'dream job' - NFL.com

I know that the quote isn't anything new for anyone here, we've all read and heard it, but I have to wonder if now is the right time.
I believe it's now or never to get Gruden.

My top three candidates?

1. Gruden

2. Jon Gruden

3. Jon David Gruden

Who freaking cares about slogans? If the guy wins, he wins. Don't care how they do it. Just win.

I think you make Patterson, Stoops, Gundy, and Kelly say no first.

Then drop down to Mullen, Whittingham, McIntyre ( he took over a disaster at Colorado).

They should be aiming for coaches with proven backgrounds running Power 5 programs over hot shot offensive guys at lower levels first IMO.

If they can't get that, then start looking at the Brohm's and Norvells.

I don't understand how guys like Durkin, Venables, Mullen, etc. can be in anyone's top 3. I really don't.

Patterson
Fuente
Brohm

I would love to have Patterson to but i think we missed that boat. From what i have read he wanted the job after Fulmer and didnt get much interest from Hamilton. He has since built a home and his wife is a professor at TCU. I think he is one of the best coaches in the nation.

Seriously though, do kids these days even know who Gruden is/was?
