During his Monday morning guest appearance on WJOX 94.5 FM radio program The Opening Drive, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum was asked to give his thoughts on where his current ESPN co-worker Kelly may be coaching in 2018.

“It’s an awkward kabuki dance every Sunday morning about 7:15 when I bump into him,” Finebaum said on the air, “because I have the same response wherever I have previously been, I say ‘Chip, I was in Knoxville yesterday, saw a lot of signs with your name on it. Anything new?’ He says, ‘Haven’t gotten a call yet.’

“I mean, I’ve talked to him. I don’t want to speak for him because I don’t know him that well… I think he clearly wants to coach. He’s up there (at ESPN) studying college football, and I do believe he will be back very quickly.”

This is absolutely unacceptable if true. How do you not at least reach out and start building a potential relationship here?

Not sure i want him, but he would be better than what we currently have. He never had a defense at Oregon. Won't get away with that in this conference.

I mean are you just trolling at this point? It's been well documented on here that he had a very good defense at Oregon...

They held the Cam-lead Auburn team to 22 points. Just because you have a high powered offense doesn't mean you have to lack defense.

Please think. Never contact directly always go thru agent. Plausable deniability.

Some of you are so naive

Currie needs to give him a call ASAP.

If not now, another program will.

Kelly is too good of a coach and will get another college gig soon.

Basically saying he is interested and just waiting on the call. No excuses for the AD this time.

18 month show cause with NCAA
Racial issues in Philadelphia

He will not get a call.

But still make the call. Hear his side of everything and let him sell you in why he’d be a fit. Doesn’t take long to see if it’ll work. Being fired twice and rejected more than that has a way of humbling you.

Not like he would say that he's been contacted before butch has been officially fired anyway

Classic deflection. We'd call his agent, not him directly.

Plus...we can't "technically" call anyone while we have a coach can we?

I saw the name Venables mentioned. I think this might be the better choice for the long-term.

Like he would tell Finebaum if he had been contacted. Finebaum would be the worst person to tell any kind of a secret as much as he likes to stir the pot.

Not sure about that. I know you have to get permission to contact coaches currently under contact..

Not sure he is the almighty fix but if they hire him they would have to put something in his contract to keep from using us as a stepping stone. That gets dangerous. If things go bad with him here and his contract reads that way you're talking about alot of buyout money.

Exactly. Even if he has been in contact he would not say so at this point.
