There are a lot of average to below averages coaches now. This is why our conference is no longer the best. Could the Florida coach actually be second best? Should kirby smart be considered in only his 2nd year? We all know our coach isn’t .

It Saban then everyone else. Not sure second really matters.

I'm thinking Bama OC or DC could be considered 2nd best
Their 2nd team players are prolly 2nd best team so why not coaches too

Dan Mullen could be better than Nick if he was at Alabama.

In the East, my opinion is Smart is probably the best then an argument could be made for several others. I would pick Derek Mason, since he would likely be quite successful at a school with more resources, money, and history.

JM has won the East twice, and Stoops coaches at KY and has them somewhat competitive. Arguments could be made for either of them.

Right now, it's looking like Kirby Smart.

Albeit, Georgia is absolutely loaded talent-wise, but Smart has them playing like an Alabama clone in Year #2.

I'd go:

1. Nick Saban
2. Kirby Smart
3. Dan Mullen
4. Jim McElwain
5. Derek Mason
6. Gus Malzahn
7. Kevin Sumlin
8. Will Muschamp
9. Bret Bielema
10. Butch Jones
11. Mark Stoops
12. Barry Odom
13. Ed Orgeron
14. Matt Luke

13. Ed Orgeron
14. Matt Luke

Pretty good assessment: I would put Mullen over Smart because he gets results with low 3 star recruits.

I would also raise Mark Stoops for the same reason.

I might move Mason up above McElwain. But agree with the rest. In fact, I think Mason is a hell of a coach. We should hire him.

I'd bet Nick and Dan could switch and in 8 years Nick would beat Dan more times than Dan has beaten Nick the past 8.

Wow. Comparing Mullen to the GOAT of college football. Talk about idiocy. Its sad that you cannot see that Mullen is a very good coach. He is way better than butch. But continue on.

Obviously Kirby is a heck of a lot smarter than Butch

No way. JM went into death valley last year at night and beat an LSU team that had a healthy Guice. Oh and he did it with Appleby at QB. McElwain can freaking coach.

Same mcelwain who we had every opportunity to smash 2 weeks ago. Amd he was not the reason we lost. Not seeing it.

We need consistency at QB and oline. Well be back then. Or closer to it, anyway.

From there, four years of recruiting 5 stars and we are still not in Alabama's league.

Don't really know.....

My vote would be for Malzahn.....He's the ONLY COACH left in the SEC who has beaten Saban....

UGA is still a little over-rated IMO...their D is more physical, but really hasn't been challenged at all to this point.

And I believe that Florida will find a way to beat UGA this year....would feel a lot stronger about it if Del Rio was available, but I believe they are beginning to pull it together a little down there.

Mason sure gets a lot out of his troops at Vandy...
