It absolutely will depend on the hire. Also, many of Kiffen's recruits were EEs so that was big reason. Much of it depends on the hire. Also, TN was still fairly well thought of then. We are starting to develope a not so good reputation, a pattern is developing.

True but the roster is so much better now than it was in late 2012 when we hired Butch. More attractive to coaches who are looking for a big time job.

You're not gonna see mass transfers and a class crumble with a coaching hire.

Even Dooley kept most of what Kiffin had and added Justin Hunter and Darick Rogers.

Yeah, it's overblown for sure. There's always some movement but most of the time a new coach has the fanbase behind him and recruits can sense the excitement/momentum.

Meh. I think you are being a little dramatic. We will hire a guy who can recruit and he will be able to keep the class together. That is the least of our worries.

I'm more concerned about having a coach go 1-4 against Florida when we should be riding a 4 game win streak on them.

And if we hire, say, Tee or Venables, some of the guys they have committed at their current schools will follow.

I agree. I was referring to recruits jumping ship and transfers. If we ended up hiring another scratch your head type coach, we very well could lose both recruits and transfers as our commits and our roster is much better. Both would have more options than when Butch took over.

Can you name some commits we lost when Butch and Dooley were hired? Can you name transfers we lost when they were hired?

I honestly can't think of any big losses.

I'm concerned as well but we all know recruiting is about relationships. She those relationships are gone, it's hard for a new coach to establish them in a short period of time, especially with the early signing period and EEs. It helps that there is a lot of peer recruiting going on and we have a strong legacy recruit in Cade Mayes.

At the time we lost some to NFL that went just to leave, were really not ready. Like I said, some were already locked in she kiffen left and Dooley's class really wasn't anything to write home about. If you have kids that have more high quality suitors, they are more likely to jump ship. When your other offers are to lower tier programs, they're more likely to stick. All JMO.

Also, I meant to mention that kid from SC was supposed to EE and he turned around and went home. Can't recall his name. While he turned out to be a miss, he was still a high 4 star at the time.

That kid transferred like 3 times before he ever played a down. Headcase. And he is the lone commit that you were able to name.

We aren't gonna see the class crumble in the event of a coaching change. It just doesn't happen. Coaches get fired every year and for the most part their replacement is able to keep the class together. Like I said, least of our concerns.

The class is much more likely to crumble if we keep losing games we shouldn't than if we get a new coach

GA hammers MS State at home. Ky stands a good shot at beating the gators.

I think we find out just how good our OL is this weekend when Florida plays Kentucky. Kentucky has a legit RB in Snell, however, I do not think there OL is that good. I think Kentucky will have a very hard time scoring any points against Florida.

LWS said last season Butch was working backchannels last year and had a job lined up until we lost to Vanderbilt and his stock fell through the floor. Something tells me it was Notre Dame.

Why in the world would he want the pressure at Notre Dame… It cannot be any different there than it is at Tennessee.

At the time would you not say it was a loss? Hindsight is 20/20. He was just off the top of my head. Also, Dooley benefitted from kids already locked in. Also, it was so late the kids that weren't locked in had fewer options.

You may turn out to be right but so could I. The quality of kids in this class is much higher so you have a greater chance of losing them. It will depend on whether we have to Google the new coach or not. JMO.

In reading LWS posts I get the feeling that Butch is leaving no matter what. He has stated that a loss to Kentucky or Vandy and he's gone. If he didn't get an extension after 8-4 last year he's not getting one after 8-4 this year. Then someone asked what if he finishes 10-2 with a loss to Bama and he responded that he thinks that record would get him another job. I think he wants out and I think UT wants him out but we're just gonna have to wait till the end of the year

Larry said the same thing last year about Jones leaving when he got an opportunity. I asked if Jones told him that, he said no. He is not a confidant of Jones. They may have met in passing, but LWS is isn't the insider he portrays himself to be. This is all speculation.

Football in the South matters more. Their fan base is huge but it's national. The local pressure here is a lot higher.

Also, our fanbase has way more idiots on social media compounding pressure. And we have way too many people in our local media and many of those who unfairly cover the program IMO.

Defensive struggle. Field goals may win it and if that's the case my money is on the Gators.

Meh. I just disagree. Like I said, least of our worries.

No decision should be made with recruiting class in mind.

Regarding an extension?

I don't get how most here want to spend whatever it takes to get the right coach but want to be stingy with $ when it comes to extensions. I say spend the money to keep recruiting going and make a coaching change when it's needed. You get what you pay for and making sure our roster doesn't take a step backward is worth paying for.
