He had his chance to come to TN. He did not want to

He didn't want to make a lateral move for less pay. The offer was token (fans wanted it and both parties felt compelled to pay us homage). Tee came to pay respect because he knew that. I expect the reds not tot get that but RF posters need not get it twisted. An HC offer isn't the same thing and he's repeatedly spoken of how much he loves UT (well after the fact too).

The more I think about it, I don't believe you NEED a mobile QB in this system it's ideal no doubt. The problem is the non mobile QB needs to be able to throw the ball and QD isn't very good at that.

Worley wasn't horrible but that O-Line he played behind was, if we had Worley on Saturday we win.

Worley was a hero. He took a horrifying amount of punishment behind that O-line and never blamed anyone. (We had a great stable of quarterbacks then, but only Dobbs stood a chance with that O-line, and that's because he could run for his life). Didn't matter if he was riding the pine, Worley was still all Vol. I will always admire him.

OK, if it's out there, it's out there. I have heard that we have four players who have threatened to transfer. JG told some players after GT that he was leaving. He's made it known that he's not going to sit behind QD two years. Two players threatened to leave last night; another one threatened to leave today. I think one of them may have cleaned out his locker. All of it is 100% unnecessary. Our coaches need to be able to manage this.

CBJ and CBS aren't getting along. That isn't new. Apparently, CBS thinks that CBJ hamstrings him and makes it impossible for him to run the defense he wants. They're barely civil to each other. I've been wondering if Shoop will quit. It's crossed my mind that he's sticking around to see if CBJ gets released and he can get an interim tag.

IMO, most of this will get patched up. Position coaches have talked players back before-- more than we know-- so it's possible everybody will play against UMass and this will all go away. But it shouldn't have been allowed to escalate to this point.

Don't buy for a moment that CBJ is hamstringing Shoop. There may be threats of player transfers but Shoop is floating rumors, imo, as to why he's done a piss poor job. CBJ doesn't do anything on D. Plus we had too many changes on the D side to legit say CBJ is holding Shoop back. Shoop is just looking out for himself/toward the next job.

That said, QD needs to be benched. He pulls the ball too often. We should be a running team and the fact that we're passing so much starts with his decision.

Players always threaten to transfer after a painful loss. The only ones with a legit argument for doing so are 1. Geronimo given that QD hasn't been playing well and should've been yanked and 2. well I dunno about 2

It's only a matter of time before the players turn on Butch Jones. He's seriously jeopardizing the careers of some major players. The man is proving himself to be a totally incompetent coach. This is Dooley level stuff people.

And no way JG stays at UT to watch QD stink it up for 2 years. I'm not pro JG by any means, I just know that QD is a horrible QB.

If I'm Byrd, I'm transferring yesterday. Maybe have a chance to prove himself at DB and earn a good living in the NFL. Because he never will sniff the league as a WR. Brilliant move Butch! Pure genius. How many catches does he have through 3 games?

Butch Jones is a fraud. And I'm glad many are now seeing through his BS

Butch may micromanage day to day but where was it gameday? When he heard pass inside the one he could have overruled or called timeout to change the play. John Kelly or QB sneak .

3. Tennessee: Butch Jones is clearly not a bad football coach, but he may very well be best in the country at frustrating his fan base. We’re now three games into his fifth year, and does anyone really know what Tennessee’s identity is supposed to be? Is there any sort of overarching philosophy or set of principles that define his program other than the “brick by brick” nonsense that fans abandoned long ago? When you think of Tennessee football right now, there’s no consistent image that comes into your mind. They’re not particularly physical or imposing at the line of scrimmage. They’re not really committed to being a high-octane spread offense. They haven’t been very good on defense the last couple years. It’s just a lot of ordinary, all around. Maybe that’s why Tennessee tends to get in so many of these crazy games under Jones. Maybe that’s why it feels more like luck when the Vols win them and a coaching debacle when they lose them. Saturday would definitely fall into the latter category. Tennessee lost at Florida, 26-20, because its offense couldn’t capitalize on numerous opportunities to take control of the game and its defense allowed a 63-yard touchdown pass as time expired to a team that hadn’t scored on offense all season. In the larger, cosmic sense, maybe that’s just karma balancing itself out after Tennessee stole a game against Georgia Tech that it absolutely should have lost. Or had their own Hail Mary against Georgia last year. Tennessee isn’t a bad program right now, but if it were a better one, it wouldn’t feel like every week comes down to the flip of a coin.

That pick 6 was about 12 feet in the air and 90 mph. We are unlucky that Callaway has major hops in that case. Dude went way up

Actually, it was a little bit of bad luck. If he does not touch it, there is no way it is picked. He made a valiant effort to catch a ball that was way too high. I don't blame him at all. That was clearly Dormady's fault, combined with the typical UF luck.

I actually like Butch a lot. I think he's a good guy and he has done a lot for our program. If he wins the east he can stay. I'll believe it when I see it. But he needs to make corrections, especially personnel management.

If he wins the East, he might leave on his own. Of course, he can stay. I do seriously doubt that we win it, though we have the talent to win 8 of our last 9. Unfortunately, his stubbornness in some critical areas (like personnel) will be his ultimate downfall.

CFA just tweeted "need to think"

This is a prime example of people losing their minds and is one of the worst thing about social media. That can mean almost anything. I get that it could mean he needs to evaluate where he is with this coach and football team, or it means he has to decide what classes he needs to take next semester.

Really tired of butches ****ty conservative play calling. If he went aggressive I wouldn't be mad. I think it was the 14 uga game, I wish we still called plays like that

You mean aggressive like throwing it 7 out 7 times inside Florida's ten yard line?

Has there ever been a situation in CFB where a coach was "helped" into a lesser position by his current employer?

I mean, it sure would be nice if Butch and Currie worked out some mutual agreement where they told some G5 or lower-tier P5 school that they could hire him with no buyout. That would make him a far more enticing hire to interested schools, he could save face and keep coaching, and we wouldn't have to pay any money to fire him.

The question is whether any P5 schools want him and whether he would be too prideful to step back into the G5 ranks. And also of course whether that scenario is even remotely realistic.

Am I stupid here to believe Butch is not voluntarily walking away from that buyout? No one is that dumb right? 5 mil is 5 mil.

I like Butch, defended him and gave him the benefit of the doubt right up until yesterday. 2017 @ Florida was to Butch Jones as 2011 @ UK was to Derek Dooley, IMO.

I agree it was very close to being as bad a loss. The only difference, at this point, is that Butch has built up some equity and Dooley had none and Butch still has nine games to right the ship for the season, or at least two, and then see where we are after UGA.

Smh at all of this. #1 we have a soft team (with a few individual exceptions), and it's evidenced by players threatening to leave after a tough loss. #2 there has been concern for quite a while that Butch has hamstrung Shoop and his defense he wants to run, first evidenced by not letting him hire his own guys when he took this job. #3 if all of this is truly going on behind the scenes, especially with the coaches, Butch needs to be fired yesterday, because there is surely 0% chance of any success the rest of this season, and we will end up in the same place at the end of the year minus a few promising players that we may have kept on the roster, if he were let go now.

Why would you not buy it? It's already common knowledge that he wouldn't let him pick assistants or change terminology when he was hired. Who knows what else he's micromanaged.

And the team's attitude comes from the top.

And there it is- we wondered how Shoop suddenly became stupid and forgot how to coach defense, and come to find out, it was Butch screwing it up. Not a surprise. I wouldn't doubt Butch is calling the shots on some of the personnel decisions on that side of the ball too because they are so mind boggling.

And Shoop was being set up to be the fall guy too! Good grief you can't make this crap up! Hope Currie is on top of this as well, he can't sit back and allow this to escalate to the point that we are losing talented players who might actually get a chance under a real coach.

Interesting perspective from Mark Bradley of the AJC in this mornings paper:

At game-planning, Butch Jones is the worst coach in the history of humankind. Does Tennessee ever take the field and do what it intends? Does it even show up before halftime? The Vols are gifted enough to wad up their alleged script and improvise their way back into games, but this remains a misguided aggregation that will win nothing of consequence.

Interesting that before the current coordinators were hired we played really well in the first half. CJJ defenses were very well prepared and Debord scored nearly every first drive in 2015. It's been the last 2 years that the teams Havnt come out of the gates well.

Dormady can win in this system. It's about situational play calling and execution. Coaches are calling bad plays, and players aren't making the right reads. If you change about a half dozen plays either by changing the call or executing, we beat UF by double digits.
