Shoop has been a head scratcher. I just can't believe the notion that he just forgot how to run a defense. I am with you on the fact that I am in the middle ground with Shoop. This is his last year on his contract (was only 2 years) and I have been wondering for a little bit now if we will make Hoke the DC if Shoop ends up not working out. However, I am rooting for Shoop. I very much want our staff to stay the way it is in terms of DC and DL coaches because I know they are top rated at those positions.

When is the last time Hoke ran a success defense? Genuinely asking.

Anyone have an interpretation?

Some are saying he was cleared and will play. I don't think that will be the case because even if cleared they haven't even been around team since middle of August but it could also be something completely unrelated to football

Why would you want Hoke? He was terrible at Oregon as the DC.

UT vs. UF Depth Chart

Ty Chandler @ #2 rb
T. Byrd @ #2 slot
S. Tuttle @ #2 DT
C. Jumper @ #1 MLB
Bituli @ #1 SAM
J. Martin @ #1 CB
Ev. Berry @ #1 KR

Sheesh...Martin still starting.

I'm tilting more towards there being no excuse for a loss tomorrow. I re-watched the 1st half (yes, 1st half...I guess I'm a masochist) of last year's game last night. Florida was absolute dog crap. I've never seen a team look that bad and be up 21-0.

And they are not as good this year as last. No excuse for a loss tomorrow.

However, I'm also not going full "fahr Butch" either. Like Bruin said, we have to see how this season plays out. And, of at least equal importance, we need to see if we can hold this 2018 class together. If so, that buys some time.

I really look at it like Butch is on probation right now. With the current landscape of compensation practices for college football head coaches, the fact that Butch hasn't gotten a raise or extension in a while, for all intents and purposes, says that he's on a short leash.

For those who think we have a monopoly on dumb fans, Arky fans are suggesting that Bret B will voluntarily waive his buyout and just quit if he continues to have a bad 5th year.

Not sure you can judge him based off that one 2016 season at Oregon. He inherited a defense that was very flawed. The season prior, 2015, that defense ranked #116 in total defense and gave up 37.5 ppg. There had been dissention in the lockerroom with players calling each other out for lack of effort, and there were a lot of criticisms of Helfrich for the overall culture within the program. And talking to some friends who are Duck fans, they didn't have the talent they needed on the DL. It was a tough situation to go into. Not saying he doesn't deserve any blame, just that it is very difficult to come in and correct major problems in one season.

I'm starting to think Martin has some black mail material on Butch.

Even in everyday life the perception is that success is a steady incline. That's not reality. Anyone who has had to work very hard for something that is extremely difficult to attain can tell you that.

Success is also doing the little things correctly, consistently .
Do you feel like our football team has done that?
You're right wins and losses isn't always the best judge but being in positions to win, using your best players, developing talent and eliminating tiny mistakes have to play a part in coming to an ultimate conclusion.
Do you feel we are the best coaches team? Do you feel we are always prepared? Do we/have we seen the same mistakes being made repeatedly?

That's the problem
And that is why I think we are not "successful"

Florida message board has a thread, "Say something nice about Tennessee"

Coach might be a tool and I don't like him, but you can tell that dude would run through a wall for his guys.

Went to the game last year. Nice people invited us to their tailgate and fed us. Then they found some of their friends who sold us their 40-yard-line, right behind the UT bench tickets at cost. There are good people everywhere.

The state of Tennessee is LOADED with GORGEOUS women......and that sexy southern accent is very STIMULATING to me!!!

There's no hurricanes in Tennessee.

If I lived there, my kids wouldn't be missing their fifth school day in a row and driving me nuts.

My aunt, who I love, lives in Knoxville. She had a cabin in Gatlinburg that burnt down. I like the mountains, and the duck hunting in the western part of the state can be good.

My uncle (now passed) used to call me every year before the UT-UF games (we did not talk after) and we would tell each other UF and UT jokes-usually making fun of each others schools-but my favorite was not one of those. He told me,
"There are only two good things in Tennessee, and Dolly Parton has both of them". :)

moon pies man

I don't know whether or not they were invented inTennessee, but that's what they are.

They were invented in Chattanooga, and are still made there. Banana flavored is the best.

There are a lot of hot chicks in Nashvegas, from morning, noon to night.

If you live in the south and do not know what an RC Cola and a Moon Pie is, you must be either a)under 30 or b) have not acclimated properly.

True story. When I was a young'un (that is a child for those that are southern impaired), my momma packed a moon pie about once or twice a week in my lunch. One of my buddies saw me eating and asked what it was (he was from, ugh, Connecticut). I told him moon pie. He took a bite and promptly traded me something really good for it. Somehow, he got the idea that my mom made them and would offer his entire sandwich (or grinder as he called it) for one of them. I was eating like a king until he saw them in a store!

Some beautiful people
Some majestic mountains
Some great times

Smoky Mountains and all that entails.
My family and I had a pretty good time in Chattanooga.
Chandler's Deli in Knoxville is AWESOME!

Up until last year I always felt we were well prepared, well coached, disciplined.

Even when we were winning last year something seemed off.

I think our defense had a bad game plan for Ga Tech.

I don't see how we are still gnashing teeth over it two weeks later at 2-0. If we had beat ISU by 70 or by 30 it doesn't mean much at all.

The national media is catering to the large Vol presence. The majority of vol fans are miserable and will always click on the negative articles because it makes them feel good that their negative opinions are being vindicated by the talking heads.

I have to disagree. The majority of all Vol fans aren't negative.

The majority of social media "Vol fans" are negative.

Unfortunately, the social media mob is so vocal that it has skewed perceptions of our entire fan base.

We still get better bowl selections when there is an option because of how well our fan base travels to support the Vols. (I highly doubt that the social media negaVols are those that travel)

I thinking you're on to something. I noticed that sitting at the game last week. In the 100 or so people directly around us, there was one or two consistently b!tching while everyone else seemed to be having a decent time. Granted, those two always seemed to be the loudest (or wait til a quiet spot to off-gas) but the atmosphere didn't match what you see on social media.

I've been on an unfollow/mute spree on twitter. Deleted 1180 and 1340 from my radio presets. The world is a much better place.
