I think the angle is if you are not a well oiled machine (which right now we are not on either side) then game reps for the starters is needed. They peppered in the you uns but the swamp is next and we needed more oil.

I thought the argument for Jumper playing is that he knows the defense and has experience? He didnt need the reps, he needed rest. Same for Kmack and Kongbo and McDowell. Get Osborne and Wiggins in. 12 on D didn't need the reps. You get the picture

Yup. Yup. Yup.

So you aren't at all frustrated that our tired starters played 90% of the game, while our young athletic backups sat and watched instead of getting valuable in game experience?

I think there are some issues with our substitution patterns but I think y'all are blowing it out of proportion. I think the starters need work too as they aren't playing up to potential. Also, I think there is more to playing any position than athleticism. I think some of the young guys, while they appear more athletic than some of the regulars, can't be counted on against SEC opponents. I have always been a fan of mixing young guys in with the older guys during a meaningful part of the game to get them up to speed. I don't think throwing all the young guys out there at then end does all that much.

Listen, I am worried about several aspects of this team going forward, I'd just like a min to enjoy the win and savor some of the good stuff we saw today. For example, Chandler, and the other young backs. Also, #1. He's a star in the making. Trevor Daniel is the best punter in the nation. Medley was booming his kick offs through the end zone. Guarantano, while he wasn't spectacular, he obviously has all the tools when he gets some miles on his tires. Carlin-fils-ami had a very good game and ran with some power.

Agree

Brandon Johnson has had more targets two weeks straight. I think he's No.3 WR talent personally. Palmer and Callaway get open like elite WRs. Need a QB that will scan the field and deliver the ball deep to them. They are downfield mismatches. This team is built to go vertical with the speed outside and the fast RBs. Plus the OL is athletic..... Offense potential is good but QB is holding us back for sure. Throwing check downs is not going to win big games at all. And we need to score points with this defense of ours. Also need a QB that can extend plays with his legs to keep the defense off the field.

I have to admit. That last series has me feeling good about JG. He's going to be special. I don't know tho about playing him already. But it isn't like Dormady is lighting the world on fire. JG's potential is off the charts and exponentially higher than Dormady's

Must admit I expected both QB's to look better than they have. Seems I remember in the spring they placed a lot of emphasis on ball placement, what happened to that?
Not feeling as good about the season as I was before,I was sure the injuries we had was the biggest problem with the defense but now I'm not so sure.

Yes they get rest for the next week but they are not playing sec winning level so they needed reps. Thats my take on why the staff is doing it. I gotta believe there is a method.

Fromm and Bryant have looked confident as freshmen, QD and JG look unsure of themselves even against a scrub team.

I wonder if our offense is complicated?

Same here. I don't necessarily think he should be starting yet, but our ceiling is obviously higher if the coaches can get him going.

Probably sucks we won't see JG until maybe 4th quarter of UMass now unless QD craps the bed next week.

You said it in this post. The young guys can't be counted on in SEC games because of lack of experience. Which is EXACTLY why they should have played meaningful snaps EARLY in this game to gain that needed experience. I didn't want them all in late at garbage time, they needed to be in early. And Jumper,KMack, Mosley didn't need the rest.

Well let's hope that doesnt happen unless you would rather see jg that is.

Both of Carlins td runs were monster but in different ways. He really glided on that long one.

I think McDowell and Kongbo need the reps.

Not 90% of them. Phillips needed reps. Johnson needed reps.

Even if we agree McDowell and Kongbo needed reps, how does that preclude Ignont, Wiggins, Osborne etc from getting in the game early?

Also, Kongbo and McDowell can get PLENTY of reps and still be given breathers early.

Nah, we'll see him next week when we're up 30 on the lizards.

If Jumper hasn't had enough reps by now then when will he ever?? I get you wanting to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt. I'm usually right there with you and I HATE being negative like this, but I'm more sure that I'm right about this than anything I've ever said in Volnation.

As thin as LB depth is, it was critical to get Ignont up to speed. How can we keep trusting the coaches when they weren't even gonna play Bitulu until they had to, and we've seen what he is doing now.

Edit* and Jumper is TIRED and he doesn't play well when he is tired. See second half of GT game.

Well let's hope that doesnt happen unless you would rather see jg that is.

I don't care who takes snaps as long as we win lol

It does kinda bum me out thinking that we won't get a chance to give JG the reps he needs to take a step forward for a while though. Wouldn't surprise me if he only gets 1-2 drives until we play SMU.
