I kind of think they might have prepared for Jordan and been caught off guard by Marshall as well. But the running 50 times thing is a bit misleading. I'm not sure Paul Johnson even planned on running 96 plays and Marshall keeping the ball 44 of them going into the game. He usually likes to keep the ball in the QBs hands about 3-35% of the time. But he had a hot hand and they rode it.
Yeah, but they don't just line up and run the triple option all night in most of their games. Their offense has more wrinkles than one play. Leading up to the game, their fans on here were warning us about how they'd run on us if we did nothing but focus on the triple option.
This is also kind of misleading. They average a lot on the ground largely because they generally have a 4:1 run/pass ratio. As for being held under 250, they were held under that rushing 5 times last year (3 times under 200) and 6 times the year before (4 under 200).
2014 was super impressive, though. They were only held under 250 once, in a throw away season opener against Wofford. Granted, that was arguably their best season since PJ has been their coach.
I agree with about not thinking our defense is what the statline showed. I think we'll look better against traditional offenses (I'm kinda thinking our strength might end up being pass defense, maybe).
My only point is that I don't really buy the "they ran a different offense against us! We couldn't see it coming!" narrative just because Shoop mentions they'd quit emphasizing the triple option after a few series.
