Jarrett Guarantano

See the game live versus tv allowed me to see Dormady make some bad mistakes. Not bashing him, but he's gonna get the same treatment Dobbs got last year for locking on to one receiver and terrible decisions leading to bad throws. He locks onto one receiver, rarely got into his progressions. It was 1st or 2nd qtr he had Jennings wide open down the left sideline but threw into double coverage over the middle on a drag route. He had Palmer on a beautiful post and didnt see him. Instead he threw to Jennings in double or triple coverage. Dormady didn't win the game. Kelly and Calloway did. Maybe he wasnt allowed by the coaches to go through his progressions and only looked to one receiver to keep it simple for him in the 1st game. Dont know, but after a terrible 1st half, he did play better in the 2nd. I see a lot of people mentioning drops, those throws many were behind the receivers. He was tighter than a snare drum. Dobbs made several like that also, but those throws cant help the receivers. As any receiver, if its delivered right, theyll make a play. Wolfe got Ronnie Garvin hands. Hands of stone. His drops killed me. Oh, and QD kept 2 qb options last night. Missed about 7-8 he should have kept. Reminded me so much of Worley. Hes got to run more to keep the defense honest. Hopefully, he will watch film, learn, and attempt to go through his progressions and also step up in the pocket. If he doesnt run more, this offense will not work.

I'm guessing that you like JG at the QB spot. Six dropped passes and QD still managed to have a good game. It'll be alright.

I think that this thread is embarrassing. None of us know much about the young man. For all we know, he is the type of player that does not get up or down. He has always been the man and now he is watching. Last year was a redshirt and that made it easier. Now, he is watching and that is something he is not used to. The facts are that some of these highly rated kids are head cases. Hopefully, the situation improves where it can.

I will say I do not understand how he was not jacked during that game. I am also concerned that he was not close to the offense hearing what was going on. If he is not engaged how can he go into the game and contribute meaningful minutes without repeating some avoidable mistakes. Hopefully this improves.

While I can understand his disappointment in not starting or playing in the game, his childish response was not appropriate. I think we should give him a pass if he learns from this and grows into the adult that this team will need as its leader, possibly this year but surely within the next two. Another thought, would we rather have someone who didn't care at all or someone who is motivated to be "the man"? GBO and onto the next game.

I was one of the guys pulling to see Guarantano in the second qtr. I still wish we had seen him.

Being said, Guarantano really embarrassed himself on notional television last night by the way he handled it.

Hopefully his father got involved and knocked some sense into him today...

I heard that. He just needs to simmer down. He'll get to play plenty of football here so long as he keeps his head about him.

All I gotta say is he needs to celebrate with his teammates. Pouting ain't going to do anything. And why bother transferring? He'd have the same number of years to play regardless. Maybe even less depending. Suck it up, celebrate with your team and keep working.

I want him gone. Watched him sulk all night he refused to talk to Dormady, congratulate or support him. He ignored Canales and several other coaches. Its a toxicity that we dont need. He forever lost me, and i refuse to watch him play. PERIOD.

It was so bqd, my friends 76 year old mother was the first to comment, she said, "Who is that with the orange thing in his hair? Whats his problem, he was ignoring that coach and staring off like he could care less what he had to say."

This was even before announcers comments, and before Callaways brilliant TD, along with JG's hurdish disinterest. All game long we kept rewinding and watching his awful, cancerous sideline behavior.

Hes no Sheriron, thats for sure.

For what its worth she also said the turnover trash can was goofy.

Does anyone have count of how many dropped passes we had? At times, it looked like Pop Warner football.

I'll preface this with I am not a coach, but I play one on the internet (borrowed from the UGA writer on the triple option article).

QD:

Needs work:
- First time starter in a big game and he was nervous. I can accept that. I thought he settled in nicely.
- Tried to force the ball to covered receivers, way to much.
- Locked on to one receiver too much. This concerns me.
- Was not stepping into the throw, but from what I saw mostly because defenders were at his feet. That affects your accuracy when you can't follow through. Defenders at his feet is an OL issue.
- Threw into triple coverage way too many times. JJ was his target and that was it.
- Receivers dropped several that should have been caught.

Promising:
- No sacks. Got rid of the ball when he needed to. (got lucky)
- No Interceptions. (very lucky, 2 should have been picks)
- MC had a good night, QD was the only quarterback throwing the ball. (MC made some great catches). Both should get the credit.
- QD made several really good throws, down the stretch.
- After JJ went down it forced QD to look at other receivers. They made catches down the stretch. That will go a long way to help his confidence in open receivers, when his first choice is covered.

JG:

- To get on the field you need to be a leader. JG did not show leadership last night, in my opinion.
- Be active in the game. You are one play from being in the game.
- Being disappointed is part of life, it's okay to not like it. Do something to prove them wrong. Last night, you proved them right, with your immaturity.
- The QB coach should insist that the back ups wear head sets and have play sheets so that they are part of the game. That's my opinion, but must not be this coaching staffs.

Go Vols! We're 1-0, I'll reserve my judgement on this team at the end of the year. It was an exciting game. Proud of grit and determination to keep playing, through the adversity.

Wouldn't blame him given all of the crap Butch and Co. likely have sold him.

From what I have heard, he was sold on UT under the premise that he would be starting once Dobbs was out and Dormady likely transferring.

Then he's a dumb*** for thinking a starting SEC job at QB was going to be handed to him. QD stayed, and JG did nothing to earn the starting job in the spring or summer or fall. The reason he is pouting is because he did not separate himself from the pack.

Fact is, come game day, QD was the best option to start this game. And, I applaud the coaching staff for not putting JG in. Had he been engaged, instead of bench crying, he would have got in. No question in my mind. but, they saw what we saw on TV. As a coach, the threat of my job would not have got JG on the field last night. As much as he probably needed to get in in the first half, I would never have done it.

And with that attitude, he definitely does not have what it would have took to help win that that game.

As is seems to be, QD settled down and did enough in the 2nd half to make it very difficult for JG to get playing time now. JG definitely going to be in the doghouse this week.

We'll know his future against Indiana state when it is time to play the subs. If there is not some acceptable atonement this week, I look for someone to move up the depth chart.

The receivers had 5 drops in the 1st half. That's not Dormady's fault.

Dormady played really bad this game. I was at the game and he locked on one receiver and would miss another guy open. He was very, very inaccurate with throws on the ground or behind receivers except for short under throws. Callaway bailed him out on a bad decision on the deep ball in double coverage. We needed a change after halftime. Props to the team for pulling it out!

How many people think Butch lied to JG the way he lied to JH?

Lied to them? Maybe he told them what they could do with their talent if they came in and earned it.

You think Saban lies to his recruits? Or, maybe he tells them what they're capable of, and if they earn it, they get it.

Stop guessing first of all. Second, Dormady can't blame drops by receivers just like Dobbs couldn't either. Most throws were behind the receiver resulting in the receiver getting hit as the ball arrived. Not making for an easy catch. Dormady is Worley 2.0, and he'll kill us if he doesn't keep the ball more than twice a game. He'll get better but he's too predictable. Hopefully, he'll not plat so tight next game. 2nd half was better, because Jelly ran like a wild man.

IfJG played and su ked he'd get it too just like Worley, Dobbs, and QD. No difference. Bad play is bad play.

butch full of it..my thing is if u going to name a starter name the damn starter..the problem is butch didn't want jg to transfer so held him hostage..thats wrong he knew who is starter was all along..what was wrong with giving jg some reps last night? its not like he threw dormady threw 5 tds last night..he went in the half only completing 5 passes out of 20 attempts..put yourself in JG shoe u would be pissed too..

I was on the sideline and QD did a good job, He hit some big passes down the stretch and nobody especially Wolf could catch the ball in the first half. There were a ton of drops when they were right in the receivers hands.

Defense line got manhandled like GTs defensive line. Insted of attacking the offense our defensive line just stood up and got pushed back. DLine was really disappointing.

JG? I would send his ass packing after his on the sideline antics last night. Overhyped and overrated imo.
