I saw a video on YouTube a long time ago that suggested that Phillip Fulmer and the 1998 Vols used some sort of death ray (perhaps not the exact terminology used, but something close) to go undefeated and to make sure they made it to/won the national championship that year. I think it was made by a deranged K-State fan. It was also 100% serious.

The guy's premise was that the Vols used some top-secret military-grade technology during Arkansas's last possession and aimed it at Stoerner, causing him to lose his balance and fall. Apparently they also used it to cause K-State to lose to A&M, thus ensuring the Vols would play FSU, a team without its starting QB.

UT does have a quality engineering program.

The media has been sitting on injury and suspension news to placate the coaches. Brice breaks things the others keep quiet because he doesn't care. He's already on the Butch Back Pocket List.

How noble.

Exactly what has John Brice broke the last 9 months besides his own reputation?

The fact that you mention this about Butch looking for a way out concerns me. Makes me wonder what the team chemistry is like behind closed doors. If the players knew he was looking for a way out, then I don't think that bodes well for the season. With all of that said, it makes me wonder if the media knows this as well, and is why so many are predicting for us to have a mediocre season.

The 2 things I can look at and feel that things must be OK now behind closed doors is how well we have recruited, and the assistant coaches he brought onto the staff. If he was not fully onboard anymore, I don't think he is able to make those additions, nor do I think we are recruiting at the level that we are for this class right now.

I think there was a lot of emotions that were flowing last year. With the drama surrounding Hurd, all the injuries, and the associated bad losses, I think the environment was toxic. I think there was even some bad mojo between some of the coaches.

I think a lot this toxicity was flushed down the drain after the bowl and with the addition of the new coaches. I think the attitude surrounding this team is much better right now. The questions in my mind are: what happens when they drop a game? How does the team respond to adversity? DO the players lose confidence?

I'm listening to the Hubbs segment from yesterday on 990. One of the most bizarre calls I've ever heard. http://216.172.182.115/wnml/johnjim530.mp3 This link will refresh with today's show so it only works for a few more hours.

He starts his call at 7:35 mark and rambles until the 11 minute mark.

It has to be someone with a weird sense of humor. Just really bizarre. Not sure if I should laugh or be scared. He mentions 9/11, hurricanes, chem trails, sunsets, etc.

Edit: He also mentioned planet X, the rapture, Revelation 12, astronomers, CIA, Naval officers, Government forensics. This is all in a call to Brent Hubbs. Beyond strange.

I was listening to this live on the way home from work yesterday. Now, I am a Christ follower, but even that whole thing was weird to me. The next two calls were weird as well.

He was tying the rapture and Revelation 12 into 9/11 and the upcoming football season. Planet X?? What in the world? Completely bizarre.

The next guy wanted Hubbs and Jimmy to tell him how he could listen to Kesling and watch the game on tv and have them synced up.

The next guy talked about the triple option causing so much angst and wanted to know what would happen if a team of 4 and 5 stars ran the triple option. And then he keeps trying to talk over Hubbs. Hubbs got heated and had to shout him down.

LOL. Bizarre segment indeed.

I heard that call. I was thinking, for the love that is everything holy, please cut this dude off! I couldn't believe they let him go for that long. I think they were thinking he might bring it back around to the football.

I think that was the plan. Keep rambling until they had to cut him off.

He didn't break the injury and suspension news either. Hasn't broken squat.

Richmond is the only one that I knew was suspended I think I said that about a week ago. People missing scrimmages and practices were really throwing me off.

I was literally blown away that they let that guy keep talking for like 3 minutes about total nonsense. He was a total fruit loop.

So Byrd is potentially the backup slot receiver to Williams. Which would mean when Smith comes back, he is probably 3rd string. Can we please, please! move him to corner before we waist his talent here and hurt his chances of being drafted? Good grief this is ridiculous

You are making the mistake of believing that depth chart.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that chart. Byrd moves around all over the field. We've put him in the backfield some this fall too.

Let's hope. At this point, I'm concerned about his future. If he really is the natural DB that most people thought he was and we're just going to barely use him on offense as a wr, that is concerning for his future. He's too talented to have 3 targets a game like last year.

We are not losing, so all three of those questions do not matter. 😎

I expect him to have a really good season. Really excited about him this year.

Jennings, Kelly, Byrd and Chandler are gonna be stars. Just gotta get some QB play.
