What's your excitement level for this season?

If the question is how excited I am then it is always a 10, even during the Dooley years. It is Tennessee football y'all, I am just pumped the season is almost upon us.

If the question is how well I think Tennessee will do then I would say I am cautiously optimistic. We lost a lot but there is talent all over the field and some pretty decent depth. Here's to hoping we get over the hump.

Best answer to not so well put options offered in poll.
Like you, it's the same for me every year. (over 60 years)
However the years have tempered the excitement somewhat, but like most everything at this advanced stage of life my "10" excitement seems to not stir me up quite as much!!!

Based on level of interest? 10 -- same as every year.

Based on expectations? 8.

Want to gauge your level of interest.
If you have been a staunch Vol fan for over 20 years, tell me your level of interest with 10 being the most excited you've ever been for a season and 1 being the least interested and excited.

most disinterested I have been in over 50 years. I will still watch a lot of football once it starts including watching Vols games multiple times.

My interest level is NOT just related to football but the athletics program over all. Have lost all faith in those in charge (UT administration, Athletics administration and the boosters that decide things) to do the right things to bring athletics up to compete for championships. Leadership is the worse I have seen in all my time following the Vols.

I have sold my season tickets (14 of them) for the last two years.

Been the same boosters for years and the admin hasn't been top notch for years. It is what it is. I just hope Butch can over come the idiots behind the scenes.

Yep. Just 1 of the school's fighting to win despite the administration instead of win with help from them. But that has zero impact on my support of the team.

I understand what you say. The weight of time and change are tough to look back on.
At a meeting years ago, the question was ask of Pres. Johnson, "what do you think of where our team is" (questioner was referring to football which was not too good). The answer from Pres. Johnson came back really quickly, "really good, the last I saw they were in 1st place!" ( his reference was to "Pat's" team).
I don't think this day and time anyone in admin. would ever respond this way. ( Way too dry )

Didn't mean to ruffle feathers with the choices.
Me just joking around.
And, I don't see them as all negative.
3 are quite positive...8, 9, 10....
And #7 still bought Season tix...just won't bother watching Ind State, Umass, or So.Miss.
And#6 still interested...just has a pet peeve...
Yes, 1-5 are negative.

Anyway, if the Mods want to nuke this post because they see it as too neg and upsetting, I'm cool with that.
Go Vols! Beat Tech!!

Always a 10. The feeling I get driving to the stadium and then walking in will never change...whether we are favored by 30 or underdogs. Leading up to each season I just get this feeling that comes over me, especially that first summer day where it feels like Fall. Gets me jacked up every time.

LWS, reminds me of the saying about the sausage factory.

If you like to eat sausage, never visit one.

Sounds like you got too close to all those behind-the-scenes things. Soured your taste for the product. Might've been better if you never saw what was inside the factory walls at all.

Kinda hard to "unsee it," I know, but if you want to get back to the excitement of being a Vols fan, you'll have to do your best. Figure out some way to pretend you never saw or experienced anything beyond the football, in the stadium, with the coaches and the lads.

I can't imagine dying without loving the Vols right into my grave. Would hate to see that happen to you. Hope you find a way to get back to the sheer thrill of being a fan.

Was jacked for the 2015 season....
Truly thought CBJ and crew had turned the corner by hiring new DC and returning Offensive starters in 2016....

After CBJ's refusal to hire an outside OC...his comments at SEC Media days...and his cry-baby diatribe about the culture of negativity.... :banghead2:

My hope for this season is only wishful thinking and a dream of getting to 10 wins...

Nevertheless--I'm a VOL fan all the way... GO VOLS! :salute:

:hi:

I think there's a lot of truth in this.

If you look at UT athletics as a whole, it's pretty depressing. Let's hope it starts turning around, soon. :good!:

Yeah....it is sad that there are not MORE PEOPLE who truly see it his way and are willing to make corrections to the program....:salute:

Some of you on here wouldn't see the truth if it fell through your roof and on top of your head!

You never got the sausage factory saying, did you, VFnB?

EDIT: I realized you probably deserve a more considered response than that. So here goes:

There are things in life to take up arms for. Defense of the nation, protection of loved ones, shielding the innocent from unnecessary suffering.

Then there's football. Which is, you know, a hobby. A pastime. A leisure activity.

It's a part of the entertainment industry. Specifically at the college level, it's where the entertainment industry and the capstone education of our young adults come together.

So it's not really one of those things to get all Warrior For Justice'd up over. Unless you happen to work in the industry; then it's perhaps important for you to stand up for The Right Thing.

But most of us, we're just fans. Just being entertained. No requirement for us to learn the business side, or hold people's feet to the fire over how it's managed. We're just here for the entertainment.

So...you are more than welcome to get all riled up about what's happening with the program outside the stadium if you wish.

But that doesn't make you more of a fan. It just puts you inside the entertainment industry. Inside the sausage factory, so to speak. And you're not necessarily going to get any enjoyment out of that, so I hope you're there to work.

Me, I'm just a Vols fan. And happy to be.

Go Vols!
