'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

It's said Cade is a man among boys in high school and I saw that first hand in his highlights. I'm sure he's gonna be a great one for us but, come on, some of the guys he was man handling looked 50 lbs lighter than him. He threw those guys around like rag dolls. I want to see him working against someone his size. That will be the real test.

When does an OT ever go up against someone his own size?

I'll wait on your answer.

Good grief. Why is giving an honest assessment of a kid immediately labeled "trashing a vol commit", "throwing shade", or having an agenda? As a vol fan, do any of you think the poster wants to see Case fail, or that he revels in the fact that Case wasn't as impressive as he thought he might be? Even if he is a Maryville fan, he's still a Tennessee fan, so I don't get why so many of you think he's being disingenuous in his assessment. Maybe Case had an off night, maybe he is out of shape, or maybe he played the best team he'll face all season?

I appreciate his honest feelings and reporting both the good and bad rather than a lot of the fanboy responses from a lot of people that simply ignore player's faults. After he committed to Clemson, you'd have thought Tee Higgins was an average 2* stick-man last fall by some accounts from our so-called objective fans who were "just giving their honest opinion".

I got out of it that Cade's fat, sucks as a DT and doesn't trash 150 lb DL ENOUGH. Oh and he singlehandedly lost the first game? Anybody else speak honest?

It's his fault. He shouldn't have reached prototype RT size this early. Maybe should've taken birth control pills to stunt his growth.

Hell, in College and the NFL he will still have never gone against someone his size in an actual game situation unless he is punching in to take a DT from the side.

Cade will have ~50 pounds on every player he ever goes against during his career because of the position he plays.

It's pretty understandable that Cade isn't super conditioned right now with the injury he just got over and it is also understandable that at the end of the game he is a lot more winded than some DE that's not too much over 200 pounds.

Because its the Volnation Way!!!!!!! 😁😁😁😛😛😛

I think my perspective is being misconstrued a little bit. Lots of strawman arguments going on. I'm glad we have Mays as a commit. He was the best player on the field when he was out there (Tucker was also very good). But to be a 5* OT, I would expect the player to be dang near a once in a lifetime type of a player to see in person in a high school game. He was a force, a wrecking ball, a giant amongst boys. His play was impressive, but didn't seem transcendental to me. Maybe my expectations were too high. Anyway, disregard all I've said about him if you don't like it. I'm not a scout. Just a guy who saw him in person against my favorite team. Carry on.

If it's indeed a conditioning problem, Rock will fix that right up. He'll be more strong and quicker than he is right now.

Let's not forget that Mays was coming off surgery so he probably didn't have enough time to get in shape before his high school season started.

He's definitely a 5* prospect who'll have a successful college career.

The coming off an injury conditioning aspect is being greatly overlooked IMO. He dominated on the majority of the plays, but when you aren't able to get in football shape due to an injury it is understandable that you will get tired. The DEs have probably been running and conditioning all summer and were at lot fresher at the end of the game.

I don't think Sam was saying we should drop him but that he didn't look like his normal 5* self that we would expect. We have seen him dominate in games and at camps. It is only a matter of time and conditioning until he looks like his old self again IMO.

I was given a little bit of a hard time in Warren thread because he didn't impress me as a blocker.

I appreciate fans who can give opinions on what a player does well and what areas he seemed to struggle in. As long as there isn't a clear anti-<insert player name> agenda, we should all appreciate objective praise AND criticism. Sam didn't seem to be biased in his remarks, and while I haven't read yours, I'd be surprised if you were as well.

Warren, in particular, seems to be on the thin side for his height. His lack of blocking ability isn't so surprising, and will likely improve. He also seems to be used more as a receiving threat than a blocking presence. That said, he'll need to be able to do both going forward, so that is something that will be addressed.

He was obviously the best offensive player on the field. Looked more like a WR than TE but has a frame that appeared able to add weight. I am glad we are getting him and would think Sam is glad we get Mays. Sam is a vol fan. I love the passion our fans have and the love of the players we all have. I was also getting mad at sam but then realize it was just what he saw. Then thinking about the injury, it made sense. We need to always realize these kids are still prospects regardless of ratings. They have things to work on and thankfully can get better. As long as they realize it and work hard to get better, most will be fine.
