Charlottesville white nationalists riots

What is your reaction when you see a confederate flag displayed somewhere on a car? What is your immediate judgement about the car's owner, assuming you know nothing else about the person.

Bout the same as when I see those coexist bumper stickers.

I'm just saying black people generally don't like the Confederate flag. That shouldn't be controversial in any way. You can give me all the speeches you want about how black people "should" be okay with the flag (it's always fun when white people tell black people what should and shouldn't upset them), but this generally seems incredibly irrelevant to me.

And I do love how you avoid the meat of the post and try to divert away from the fact I just blew your pet theory out of the water.

We can make the Confederate flag discussion a separate thread, if you want. Clearly my repeated statements of "I am not making a larger point about the events in Charlottesville today" aren't registering.

Why do you continue to make a larger point of the Charlottesville events?

We've had enough threads on that in the past, but frankly, you're the one that brought it up.

What is my pet theory? I thought it was that black people generally don't like the Confederate flag, but I'm sure you know better than I do.

And I asked you for a good reason as to why black folks don't like the Confederate flag. Your rationale was "because it reminds them of slavery." Something which I pointed out hasn't been around in this nation for 150 years. You hemmed and hawed about Jews and Hitler and how things should be remembered.

Yet, you support taking down the monument of Robert E. Lee in Virginia? Should we whitewash (hope that's not a trigger word) all of history of the things we don't like? That statue was there for a long time and never was a symbol of division until someone made it a division symbol.

I don't know about you, but my grandfather wasn't forced to attend separate schools and drink from different water fountains.

We all have different sensibilities in life . Most from our own experiences.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm asking what do you think can be done today about what happened back then?
