Charlottesville white nationalists riots

Mayor Jim Gray @JimGrayLexKY
I am taking action to relocate the Confederate statues. We have thoroughly examined this issue, and heard from many of our citizens.

Wonder if all the fun is headed my way.

You're not making a good argument over removal of that symbol.

Now, does it hurt? Does it stir up feelings of repression? And I ask, how exactly are you being repressed?

Is it my God given Right to wave the damn thing if I want just like it's your God given right to wave an Pan African flag until your arms are sore? Damn right it is. It's called "Freedom of Speech." And yes, some idiots take it to extremes and you can't help but feel sorry for them having such attitudes in today's age.

But not illegal. Unless you only support the freedom of speech for those ideas you agree with. Please tell me that isn't so...

I'm not making an argument over removal of that symbol. I am saying that most black people have a negative reaction to it, which to me shouldn't surprise anyone.

It's a phrase that dates back to the turn of the century. It was always viewed as a positive term until the whole gamergate nonsense about 6 or 7 years ago. Right wingers on twitter certainly hijacked the phrase and tried to turn it into a negative, but I think most people still view it as a positive term. One of the girls who works for me is pretty much a full blown sjw and she uses the phrase with pride.

I think she's probably an exception, but who knows. To each her own I guess

Yeah, we would do things that only intelligent people do, like calling people retards

I didn't call you a retard, but you're sure acting like one now. Lol

I said you are racially retarded. As evidenced in this thread, that's a fact.

Look, I get that you're not a bright guy. I really do. I'm starting to see why you take any use of that word personally. It's a trigger for the lil snowflake.

For the record, you brought that up again.

Since when did the White Nationalist become the Democratic voter. That's Trump's kickstand.

It's funny because kkk folks were democrats. See how humorous, now?

Black nationalists vote for Democrats. What's the point?

If only I could come up with intelligent and coherent responses like these. I'll keep working on it

So, they get angry over something that never happened to them (unless they come from Africa where slavery still happens and even then, not under that flag) and draws a negative reaction?

Okay, that's fine. But why is the reaction one of violence? Why not through words alone? Or deeds showing how uninformed this crowd is? Must there be confrontation? And you can't look at that video and see both sides weren't prepared for confrontation. Both sides were equally wrong.

But of course, the people in that video just had a "negative" reaction to seeing something they disagreed with, right?

And that's always funny. What has the DNC done for them?

(I always chuckle when someone tosses "passed Obamacare" out there as an argument.)

This specifically really isn't an argument I'm making about today's events. I'm just making the point that "most black people" DO care about certain Confederate symbols, namely the flag.

FTR, the flag was also used heavily in the 1950s and '60s to protest desegregation. That's a large part of the reason why it's in so many state flags now. And again, I think it's a ridiculous notion to suggest that only those who lived through the oppression are allowed to dislike the flag. Is a Jew born in 1946 not allowed to dislike the Nazi flag?

The blocking the use can effect the rest of our year.

They are a tough team to prepare for and have a history of playing their best against the best.......so maybe that works to TN's advantage. (had to beat you to it)

Let me make sure I understand.....the main reason why the confederate flag is in so many state's flags is because it was used in the '50's and 60's to protest desegregation?

From what I have read there has been some criticism of the police force and how they prepared for the situation. Allowing the groups to intermingle and basically have free reign.

Sadly Neo-Nazis have rallies often in the South, and while that is absolutely their Constitutional right to assemble and promote their disgusting view of humanity, normally they separate the groups with barricades. I've even seen fences used to divide the scum from the inevitable (and completely appropriate) counter protests to keep everyone safe, especially the true Patriots that protest these vile pieces of trash spewing their racist, regressive hate speech and fear-mongering.

White nationalists are just as despicable as Al Qaeda.

I feel like you got a dig in there, Mr luther.

Many states reintroduced it during the civil rights movement (see: Georgia), probably somewhat influenced by the Dixiecrats, since I'm sure someone will make that point again.

Looks like the '56-'01 version backs you up, but it was dropped over 15 years ago

So if you are 50 you spent 35 years living in a state actively protesting your equality? Plus many more states introduced confederate crap in their flag after Jim Crow was done.
