Maybe I'm just silly in believing that America was built into a strong power by the very immigrants that have been coming here over the generations of our history. They've fought in our wars, started businesses, paid taxes, brought awesome new foods, arts, culture, scientific advancements, become doctors, etc. I mean, me personally, yeah born and raised here. My ancestors, however many generations removed, one side was from Wales. Not sure about the other, though I'm 99% sure I don't have any Cherokee in me. Functioning, taxpaying member of society here. Never been paid for any of my independent McCain or Johnson votes. Can't imagine who the D's would trot out in 2020 that wouldn't get serious consideration from me if this goat rodeo runs for re-election though. I'm not some open boarder nut job, obviously there needs to be vetting, but I still believe in the idea of America. I believe all the different people of America are what makes America great already. I think that government spending is out of control, not because we try to take care of the lesser in our society, but because we spend ungodly amounts on defense. If that makes me a retarded pathetic Dem, I can still sleep easy tonight with you labeling me that.

Not all immigrants are the same. You have a romanticized view of them, looking toward yesteryear. Our welfare state is helping nothing. I would be more agreeable with immigrants as long as we can send people like you packing to even things out. We're way overpopulated as it is.

This is staggeringly stupid! The Democratic nominee has won Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in every election since 1992 except of course for last November when they ran Hillary. You don't get any more extreme than Gore and Kerry and they won those states easily!

Gore and Kerry are puppy dogs compared to Bernie and face it, the 2019 Dem nominee will be extremely left wing. They can't go with anything else after what they did to Bernie. If they are white, they don't stand a chance in the rust belt.

In previous centuries the US could absorb virtually all those who were allowed onto our shores.

Not everyone was allowed in. Agree with the law or not, many could well be seen as racist. They certainly would have been challenged as unconstitutional today.

We have had them off and on. The first immigration law was the alien & Sedition Act signed by Federalist John Adams in 1798 that have been by Congress since ONLY ELEVEN YEARS after the signing of the Constitution in 1787.

Point is, we have had various rule of law for who could enter and what they needed to do for citizenship since the Founding Fathers were still running the country.
