Thin Blue Line trumps Thin Red Line.
These cops in America are out of control...
Cops should be required to carry individual liability insurance or the money for these settlements should come out of the pension fund.
That's interesting.
In practice, it would make them more cautious. If you brutalize somebody and your insurance company has to pay out, your premiums go up.
That means more bad cops would walk away from the job or get put behind a desk. The city could increase pay and pass the cost of settlements with civilians onto the insurance company which means the majority of cops would get rewarded with better pay and lower premiums.
You would lose cops period..... good and bad....they already don't get paid enough and now you are making them liable for every lawsuit that comes up. Several times the individual wins money even when the shooting or force is deemed necessary bc of the way our court system is run.

Here is a nice story about local cops with outstanding morals and most surely covered up a murder.

Wow.....when the cops are worse than the criminals nobody wins
This is truly disturbing. As per ususal, they investigated themselves and found no wrongdoing.

Not that I don't agree. The officer was an idiot but the department does that to mitigate the lawsuit. They can't officially own up to it with a lawsuit pending. That being said the state trooper was awesome in the way he handled it. Need more cops like him. Hope the family gets some money.
One has to wonder what was so threatening about a 13 year old boy walking his hamster. Once again, why was the stop initiated in the first place?
