'18 TN DT Brant Lawless

This kid will be special just got that feeling with him i did with Barnett remember when coming in the other kids got the headlines and Barnett came in quietly and the rest is history.:clapping:

I remember seeing that Barnett was a good athlete and seeing a video of him dunking a basketball. Not trying to hype up Lawless too much but it gives me a similar feeling

Would I be exaggerating if I suggested that, with his size the the athleticism they speak of in that article, that he could very well prove to be the most critical signing of our class?

Big men who can move can be game changers. He could be a cornerstone that we build our defense around.

You wouldn't be exaggerating but I still think that it is Mays. JMO :hi:

Exactly. TBH he didn't look healthy last year with all that weight he lost. His build was flat out not suited to drop all that weight in the upper body. Unfortunately, he still looked the exact same this spring.

Yeah it was definitely a result of a bad s&c program who were very very very bad.

“Just being around (Givens and Tennessee linebacker Daniel Bituli), seeing how they handled the process and took care of everything, it made me mature as well,” said Lawless, who is No. 3 on this year’s Tennessean Dandy Dozen, a collection of the top 12 senior college football prospects in the Nashville area. I decided to get my commitment over with early so I could focus more on my team,” he added. “Being able to coach the younger guys up and just enjoy my senior year — have a good time and go out with a bang.”

Lawless, a 2016 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football finalist, has registered 110 career stops — 32 for loss — and four sacks, helping lead Nashville Christian to a combined 36-5 record and the school’s first state championship in 2015. He also sprinkled in some offense a season ago, hauling in six receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown while also adding a rushing touchdown for the Class 1A quarterfinalist Eagles. Expect that production to increase in 2017 as the deceptively athletic big man will no longer be asked to swallow up double- and triple-teams on each and every snap.

“We played a defensive front that had him mostly at nose tackle last year,” Brothers said. “It was frustrating for him and hard for us to not have our best player making plays. We’re going to move him around a little bit of the defensive front, so that will showcase his versatility."

I think he has the most upside of all the DL we've grabbed this offseason. I'm excited to see Hoke coach him up into a high first round selection.

That size and athleticism is unreal.

If we Vickers is the only DT we lose going into 2018 (big if, I know) and Crosby and Bennet come along, then there's a decent chance he will.

Amazing that we can talk about having the depth to redshirt a guy like this. We are really close to being elite. Gotta win some ball games this fall and keep this thing rolling.

Agreed.

Win too many games though, and a couple of those DTs I mentioned in my previous post have probably played well enough to make the jump to the NFL and my point becomes moot lol

My friend's nephew lined up against Lawless last night at the Nashville Christian vs. Fayette Academy game. Said that they held Lawless pretty much in check and that NCS's receivers are the ones that beat them. His nephew is a guard and was head to head with Lawless most of the night.

So they lost? Sounds like sour grapes.
