Wells is as well. In the article, Gerald mentioned that Wells is one of the main reasons that he committed to UT. Although we have not yet seen what Wells will accomplish with the OL coaching, it is obvious that the man is a recruiting machine. When he was hired and people were wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth, I posted that I believed that we would be very happy with his hiring. So far it is looking like a home run.
smh.
i make a 1 line, ambiguous benign comment....i got you two ripping me for it, and now i'm too sensitive.
the other guy is right...sos.
Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words should never hurt you. When you post, you should expect neg. comebacks. Just ignore them. Posts that are agreed with usually get a thumbs up, not a post saying how great the thought was. Try to ignore the neg., it will lead to much less crap on the thread.
I don't remember gnashing of teeth or anything but then again I rarely visit the FF so I could easily have missed it. I do remember some confusion about the hire and what it meant but I also remember that the reaction from TN HS coaches was crazy good. Those guys couldn't stop talking about how great Wells would be for us and what a great guy he was. I knew then he'd do well with in-state recruits but honestly never imagined he'd do so well with out-of-state recruits.
Prevailing sentiment was (and is?) that "if he's been a mid-level coach this long that's what this is". It bled into the recruiting forum also due to questions about his recruiting. When Hubbs and crew provided reports about his relationships and connections in-state, they were met with the usual brand of skepticism. Warren and Hoke were the well received hires, Scott and Beard were the unknown quantities and Wells/Canales were the "buddy yes men". Wells has been our superstar recruiter and Canales has been impressive. What their actual coaching does for the success of the team is rightly how they should be graded, but they've defied initial expectations of many so far.
