John Currie expresses support

saying all the right things publicly....can't blame him. he shouldn't say anything other that what he's been saying. until or unless it becomes time not to...and even then, it should be in private. IF it does come time to cut ties with CBJ, i'd imagine it'll be handled in a very gracious, courteous manner filled with "thank yous" and grateful comments about what CBJ accomplished while at UTK, and what he did to build the program back up.

until then, call it AD speak....and i'm fine with that.

Actually if his comments had been very short I might agree that it is only AD speak - but they were not short at all.

there's no real meat and potatoes either. there's nothing of substance in any of his comments that says anything other than "I'm good right now, thanks".

He said that about every coach he was asked about.

I did like his comments in one interview about winning off the field being important to support winning on the field - eliminates distractions.

Some of his comments mirrors the same things that CBJ has said.

I know some folks will be very disappointed if Currie and Jones are actually on the same page and will make these words into more or less than they really are.

i'm not upset at all. i think Currie is doing what he should be doing. and i actually HOPE they're on the same page. the off field comments....yeah, he better be talking about that considering the title ix issue we had...off field issues in the athletic department were high on the list of things any new AD would have to be aware of, and continue to address. so again, no real surprise there either. and i'd imagine in that regard, he and jones are very much on the same page.

Then I guess Saban, Fisher, Myer and a host of other coaches should be watching their back.

He wasn't forced to say the things he said and honestly everything he said is true.

agreed...I thought he was candid in what was important...one being that winning was very important and he emphasized that with the baseball team hosting regionals....can't host unless you win.
I didn't realize we were so bad on the APR when Jones took over. He said we were 1 point away from being ineligible for bowls due to poor APR scores.

Currie must have forgot what our fanbase is like after a loss. AD speak in his quotes and that's all we can expect. Another loss to Vanderbilt or South Carolina and there will be a change.

Agreed, no weasel words used, no staff or kids thrown under the bus or put on notice in word or tone. It was a Goldilocks moment, just right.

He should have come out with a strong statement like this sooner.

I disagree. He had to be here long enough to evaluate all the programs and coaches. Football is the most important sport and he had to make sure he did not jump the gun which would have given the naysayers ammunition to claim he was just rubber stamping CBJ. I think his timing was right on.

Probably needed a few months to witness it personally.

Now, if on Nov 5 we're about 9-1, he'll be able to say something like this: I dare say there’s not another coach in college football that works as hard or as smartly as he and his staff do, to achieve wins on the field. This season has been not only about the players, and not only about recruiting, but about COACHING, because great recruiting and great recruits deserve great COACHING, and that's what we have here at Tennessee. I’m really excited about where we are in facing LSU next week, then heading into the final game with Vanderbilt in preparation for our return trip to Atlanta.

Effort or work ethic are not questionable with Jones. Getting talent really isn't much in question either. Optimizing that talent on the field... is the big remaining question.

Hell, he won't be recruiting period. People on here need to hop off Gruden and Kelly already.

Would almost be worth it to watch some of the 3 star police defend Kelly with Marcus Mariotta rationale.

Yes we were that close. Most folks are probably not aware of how close we were to penalties. And that was I believe when the APR expectation was lower as well.
