Top 25-Where does Tn rank?

tons of depth and experience at Oline. Question marks almost everywhere else.

of course Butch basically had an NFL Oline his first year and was terrible as he kept running a read option with no option.

that's kind of my point...:)

if that's how it ends up, with those tangible results, in December, ok, sure. i'll buy that ranking as a finish point.

just in July, i can't see anyone saying TN is a top 10 team for any tangible reason.

I don't disagree with you; however, once you get past Michigan in the polls at 9, you are making a leap of faith with most teams. For example, if you are ranking UGA #10, you are assuming that Kirby Smart learned how to coach this offseason (his "coaching" caused them to blow 3 games they had won) or if you like LSU at 14th, you are assuming that Ed Orgeron learned how to coach after giving Derek Dooley a run for worst SEC coach in recent memory.

Again, the safe bet is 8-5 or 9-4 but a 9-3 regular season is a realistic outcome, just as 6-6 is.

ok, i don't look at pre season polls that way.

so, again, IF you're looking at it as a projected finish, then hell, rank me in the top 10...lol.

i look at it more simply as a snapshot of what the voters think of the team today.

as results start to come in, and there's tangible reasons to drop or raise teams in the polls, they do.

If we played in the:

ACC -top 14
Big10 -top 12*
Big12 -top 10
PAC10 -top 15
SEC -top 20

*A lot of this is just from looking at how Big10 teams did in bowl games (the final regular season rankings of the last 3 teams we played against)

They will all be guessing. Too many questions with answers yet to come. Could just as well place UT in top 15 know. Who knows. Very little proof to argue over. BUT, argue we will!! Helps pass the time until FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!!!!

Savannah you think a lot like me. That was exactly the first thought I had as well....We could be pretty strong if all the DL gets healthy and our receivers/QB's are good and the OL lives up to their experience level...BUT...with the tough schedule and injuries pile up like last year (hopefully not like that because that was the 100 year flood we experienced last season) then we could be in for a 1988 type start....We'll know more after the first 3-4 games in....

With our schedule, we just have to win and we'll keep moving up in the rankings.

And if we don't win, then who cares?

From the SEC

1. Alabama-duh
10. Georgia-have to prove it
11. Auburn-again, prove it, seems high but most are high on them this year
14. LSU-they fell for hiring Ed O, top 25, not top 15
15. Florida-about right. Same Question as LSU, who is the QB?
25. Tennessee-about right but Tn does better when not picked high, will rise

There is no way Florida should be 15th. It won't happen, in fact, I doubt they end up ranked at the end of the year.

#25 in the poll, #1 in our hearts .....corny ain't it! :)
Athlon had us ranked 19th ins preseason poll. Like the fact we're being under sold and not over hyped, we will beat some of the higher ranked overrated teams.

Georgia plays at Notre Dame, at Tennessee, at Vandy, at Auburn, at Georgia Tech, with Florida in Jacksonville. No way they finish top ten. There's going to be a lot of middling 8-4 to 7-5 teams in the East again. Up for grabs.

Here's my rationale....if UT goes 9-3 and wins their bowl game (which I think is a realistic ceiling for this team), that typically leads to a final ranking in the 10-15 range. There were 6 Power 5 schools that went 10-3 last year and their average ranking was 10th (AP) and 11th (Coaches).

You're talking about a "what if" situation at the end of the season. The poster you responded to specifically said "top 15 preseason". I would agree that if we go 10-3 we're easily top 15 at the end of the year, that's a different discussion....preseason vs final ranking.

but i can see us losing 3 or 4 games easy. where does that put us. Jones has not did any better than a 4 loss team, moving around deck chairs on the Titanic may not improve the team as much as we all hope for. all the coaching changes looks like he is taking a huge roll of the dice. he could roll snake eyes.

Not arguing with you at all, just commenting on different people and their different views of the world.

We're not an 8 win team but a "4 loss" team lol.
That's not even half empty/half full perspective. That's "see that 1/3 rd empty glass over there?"

I definitely see us starting out between 20-25. LSU should be top 6-8 based off talent and returning players. They have the best RB in the conference and one of the best in the country.Think Orgeron will do well there he's definitely learned what it takes to be a HC at an elite school. He wasn't ready when he was at Ole Miss. I think LSU and AU could challenge Ala for the West and Conference. AU was good QB play away last year from being very good. If Stidham stays healthy Ala will have a fight on their hand getting to the SEC Championship game. No way is UF a top 15 team. They have to replace a lot of that D and could be start a FR at QB or could be starting Del Rio or Malik Zaire. Lots of unknowns for UF and atleast on paper right now aren't a top 15 team. Frank's is the QB with the highest all around potential. Del Rio is serviceable and Zaire is scary dangerous as a runner but his passing has always been hit and miss. And no way in hell does UGA deserve a Top 10 preseason ranking. Not sold on Kirby being a good HC and nowhere close to what they had in CMR. I'm also not so sure Eason is the starting QB for the entire year. The East will definitely be wide open we have as many questions as anyone else does. The potential is there for the Vols to win the East and get to one of the 6 elite bowl games. But the unknowns can also have us going 6-6/7-5 and ending up in damn Birmingham for a bowl game. But I love and trust our new coaching staff way more than the previous set of coach's. We upgrated majorly at every new position coaching hire. Especially in the Secondary and Offensive Line. Im just as excited about the WR and DLine upgrated hires too. Better recruiters and huge coaching upgrades. Not to mention there's no animosity among the staff like there had been the previous years under Butch. Hope he's finally learned put trust in the guys you hire and let them do their work. I'm betting he trusts his new staff way more than last year's. I fully expect the Defense and Secondary in particular to be night and day compared to last year's.We have talent in the Secondary just didn't have a DB coach that knew how to teach them how to play DB and Safety like they are at an elite university. It was painfully obvious the fundamentals were not being properly taught. That won't be an issue this year. Of the Secondary sucks again it will be because of injuries or our players didn't deserve scholarships to play for the Vols. And definitely think we get better OLine and the receivers having many fewer drops and better route runners and blockers. This is my rant and can't wait for football season to get started.
