I keep saying it over and over again. Trump's conduct reflects poor leadership and a lack of focus..... yet he won, which says a lot about the policies of the alternative.

....which is just amazing. The left is in meltdown over an election 6 months ago and is offering no clear opposition message or self reflecting on the policies that created an environment for a complete assclown to get elected POTUS.

They probably have some idea but the people in power at the Democratic Party don't want to go that route as it means many of them will likely lose their power to someone else.

Theyll be content to lead the losing party as long as they keep the power in that party.

I think you're right. Schumer, Pelosi, Warren and Clinton are calling the shots and playing to the coasts where there is no dissent. meanwhile, the rust belt ran for the hills and the strategy down south appears to be to just let demographics take over and hope the new voters remain in homogenous ethnic voting blocks with their hands out.

The problem with your question is that it assumes Trump actually thinks it through. All of the evidence is that he is impulsive. Now, whether that is impulsive in the sense that he is just cavalierly throwing out what he feels in that moment, or in the sense that he does it just because he knows his mouthbreather fan base will love it, is open for debate.
