Bottom line is that regardless of this year's results there is not a coach out there we could get that would not set us back...again. If you know one out there that we would pay that could keep this great class together and put together a staff this good, im all ears. Even after a 6-6 or 7-5 year, CBJ is our best option moving forward.
This is all speculation, man.
There are coaches out there right now serving as G5 HCs or Coordinators for P5 teams who will be among the top coaches in the country 5-10 years from now. It's just a matter of identifying them. The law of averages says that there's someone out there that could hit the ground running here.
We can't really say whether Butch is the best bet moving forward until we see what he does with the team he has this year and the level of progression/regression under his leadership. And I think a lot more will go into that than the number of wins necessarily.
If he can get team 121 back to playing tough, disciplined ball, I think it will all take care of itself and we won't have to worry about a coaching search, even if we're not thrilled with the W/L record. If the team seems as disinterested and disunited at they did at times last year AND we're lacking in the W/L column, then I think you can make a strong argument that this year's recruiting class stands a good chance of falling apart on its own and it might be time to bring in someone new to reenergize the players on campus as well as the fanbase.
