A question for out of state fans?

There are occasional flashes of orange here in Athens amidst all the red and black, but aside from the occasional car tag or sticker it's not terribly common. One begins to see a lot more orange about an hour and a half north of here towards the borders with TN and NC.

It's about a 3.5-4 hour drive to home games (much better than the 8.5ish hours I had to drive when I lived in northeast Florida), and I've only missed one since 2011 (the 2015 Oklahoma game for a pal's wedding...at least the reception had an open bar and a TV was available).

Could never understand why anyone would plan a wedding during football season. Maybe that's why they are still married.

In south Florida I don't see much gear simply cause folks don't wear much down here. But when I do sport my power "T" I seem to become really popular. No matter how ugly I be.

Living in Shelby County(Memphis), there's a good bit. It's felt like Ar or Ms sometimes as well. The difference between East Tn and Shelby County is like the difference between your palm and the back of your hand, it's your hand but so different.

Lots of West Tn is covered up with Vol fans, but Shelby County, is something like 15% Vol, 10% Memphis, and 75% who knows and who cares.

I still speak up when I see the Orange or a power T.

I agree that there are a lot of just random sports fans that don't have a dog in pretty much any fight, but its not 75%. I would put it more at 25% Tenn, 25% Memphis, 15-20% Black Bears (Ole Miss fans hate when you call them that, so I use it whenever I can), and the other 30-35% is made up of Arky, State, Bama (most of which very suspiciously joined in the last decade :glare:), and I see a random UGA, Auburn, UF, or even Ohio St. fan every once in a while, and the people who just follow random sports and teams. Like the city itself, the fandom here is a melting pot.

I've lived all over the city, but I live in Bartlett now and it definitely has the highest concentration of Vol fans in the Memphis area.

7-8 hours away from Knoxville in Chesterfield, VA. Try to go to most good games every year. See a handful of Vol fans around this area. I know most of them and see various others occasionally. Wouldn't miss a highly significant game if it were at Neyland or somewhere within reason (like East Coast).

RE the Ole Miss black bears comment -- to bad Ole Miss caved in to the PC and dumped Col Reb and they come up with a stupid Smokey the Bear mascot instead

I didn't get it either, aside from neither of them being football fans. They're still married, but she went full bridezilla at the wedding and has treated him like microwaved dog droppings pretty much since the wedding, though.

Without a doubt, if I could do it over again I'd opt to go to the game instead of watching what amounted to what amounted to a Jerry Springer-esque sh*t show. Learned my lesson on that one.

I live in ET so it's Vols everywhere but have lived in SC and ATL and both were full of Orange! When I was in Aiken SC about 1/3 of the people I went to church with were from TN and we were ALL UT fans. We held our own with Clem&son & USCe. Atlanta is just a melting pot. So many fans of other schools besides UGA. GT would probably be around 10th if you counted cars with college teams on them. TN AL FL AU CL & FSU were probably the most popular in ATL after UGA

I've only even a few vol fans in Fort Smith, AR. I did see a lot in Destin last year on vacation however. I try to go to games when I can but haven't been since the Arkansas game.

I was in Gibralter vacationing recently on a rainy day and walked up on a guy sporting his UT rain gear. A fellow season ticket holder. We discussed the 2017 season for 20 minutes. We drive 6 hours for each home game taking Fridays to drive over from Carolina

Gibraltar? What do you do in Gilbraltar?

There is a sports bar here in Denver that hosts Vols football watch parties every fall Saturday. We fill about 1/3 of the bar, distribute shakers, do a 50/50 raffle AD fundraiser, and play Rocky Top thought the venue's sound system. Lots of orange there.

No orange "cheggerboards" sightings any other time.

Huntsville, Al....lots of Vols fans here see it all the time. HSV has lots of fans of other team and most of the Bama fans are actually someone not a disgrace to the human race, like they are the further south you go.

I live in iowa and see other vol fans all the time

What part of Iowa?

When I was in St. Louis, there was a pretty strong allumni association. There was always a gathering at some watering hole to watch the games.

I moved to Iowa a few years ago. I haven't seen that many Vols at all. My daughter has a friend whose parents are allumni. They're from Rutledge.

There's also a guy around here that drives a Jeep with a big Power T spare cover. One of these days, I am going to chase him down without seeming like a weirdo.

Colorado Springs is a Military Town so there are plenty of Vol Fans around. Nebraska is the biggest draw in the state followed by Colorado, Air Force and Colorado State.

Haven't been to a game in years but might try and make that Nebraska game in Lincoln. Or maybe I'll travel for the Arky game as it worked out well last time I went to Little Rock for the game in the 90's.

FYP: The Standard Colorado green plates are 3 letters and 3 numbers and one of the assigned number blocks for Colorado Springs is "VFL-xxx"!

I live South of Birmingham there are some down here... it's tough being a it fan down here but what aggravates me is when I do see another vol I always yell out "Go Vols" and they look at me like I'm crazy then say yea man or yea!!!!! I'm like what kind of response is that lol I've heard maybe two "Go vols" back in the last 4 years....... I've been in NYC the last week and have seen two so far being here

I live right on the Tennessee/Alabama line almost and I would say it's an almost split with the northern Alabama residents. I actually go to church in New Market, Alabama and we did a count last year during the Tennessee-Alabama game and there were 20 Tennessee fans and 27 Bama fans. I see about as much Tennessee as I do Bama in southern Tennessee though. You have the occasional Bama inbred no matter where you live.

Where do you live? Huntland, Elora or Vann Town?

My Brothers live on Limestone Road in Elora, Sister, out towards Lexie Crossroads.

Where is this at? I might have to make the drive one day.

I have been in the Columbus Ohio area for 2 months now. I have seen the T on several cars and SUVs. Plus a couple UT flags flying on homes.

About 9 and a half hour drive for me, and I come down twice a year, but I do see quit a few people up here in PA with vol stuff on their cars, wearing gear. Even ran in a few people who went to Tennessee..

I am originally from the Green Bay area, when you say easy going about football, are you just referring to the Badgers? I would agree with that, but as far as the Packers, I am not sure there's a more passionate fan base in North American sports, they are most definitely toward the top at least.

That being said, living in Chicago now, its a very low chance I will ever see people in Vols gear, though I've seen it before. I attend at least one football game a year whether its a Neyland or an away game.

I was definitely referring to the Badgers. Even the Badger fans that are true Sconnies are much more passionate about the Packers.

To all of the out of state fans like me, how often do you see people wearing Vols gear?

- I saw someone wearing a UT shirt at the mall up here in Lexington yesterday. I run into people quite frequently wearing orange.

How far do you travel to Neyland to watch the games and about how many games each year?

-3 1/2 hours for me. I'm hoping to come down for at least two games this year. UGA and LSU.

I used to drive in for at least one game a year when I lived in Michigan. That was 11 hours. Flew from Boston only a few times in 5 years. Plan is to fly in from Texas now if I decide I'm actually willing to go to a game. Don't plan on it right now.

Where I live in northeast Georgia I see a few Vol fans, actually go to church with a couple. I see more wearing Vols gear the past few years than I did in the Dooley days. I think for a few years there I was the only one wearing Orange around here. I can be at Neyland in 3 hours from where I am.
