What if we beat Bama but are still mediocre 8-4?

Our Defense will be top 10 in the country this year and if you've got that you can beat anyone. Add that to the fact that we will have a better QB (not playmaker, but QB ( and we will neat Alabama

So we are going from the worst defense in Tennessee history to top ten in the country in a single season? Wow, thats awesome.

Scenarios like this are fun to think about sometimes, I do it often. That said, I had rather lose to them in regular season and win the East. Beating Bama would be great, but not great enough to trade for 8-4. For me anyway.

Edit: I agree withe Yankmee :)

I'm trying to figure out a way to beat them 3 times a year.

Exactly. You have one job in life. One goal. You have one reason for being blessed with an opportunity at life. There is one reason your mother gave birth to you, and one reason you have been gifted a chance to play at UT. You live, breath, eat, sleep for the opportunity to embarrass Alabama. EVERYTIME. Make it a priority already.

we got enough pressure on us...ain't predicting no Bama win, but, anything can happen...I believe 8 wins is still very doable...we'll see...that's why they play the game...:)

GO VOLS!

I've got T-shirts one says "Beat Bama", another one says "Beat Florida".

I don't understand how fans yell that the SEC is the very best in CFB, yet whine and cry that the VOLS lost to USCe and Vandy. Then they talk about how the East has been way down for the last few years and TN should have easily won it. Are
they saying the SEC is great because of the West? Mighty Ole Miss, Miss St, Ark, Auburn, 8-4 LSU, or aTm.
Everybody speaks of a certain loss to Bama. Come Oct, what if they have lost their top RB, top 2 Lbs, top 4 DTs, and best CB. That is what UT had when playing a big portion of last year. That is only one reason predicting is so hard. It's talking about the future with today's stats. Let's just planning on winning them all. Go Vols!!!

Plan A has us winning in Atlanta 3 times.
Plan A is my favorite of all the plans.

If we beat BAMA and UF, I may live with 8-4. But then again, it would be frustrating to beat both of them and drop the ball against lesser teams. So hard to say.

Its pretty well established that the sec is not the best conference in CFB. The only people that believe it is are sec fans.

That said, i dont give a crap about any team in the sec except Tennessee.

Well, to be perfectly accurate, the SEC was not the best (nor even the 2nd best) conference in CFB in 2016. Prior to that, the SEC was the best for many years.

And since a single season does not establish any permanent change in the sport, it's too soon to say that the SEC will not remain dominant in the future. This season will answer that question, I think. Two down years in a row, and it'll be pretty conclusive that we've fallen off the pinnacle of the sport.

I personally am hoping that WGWTFA all across the Power 5. I don't want Tennessee to be the best team in an also-ran conference. I want us to be the best of the best. And that means all those other yahoos need to win their OOC games, too.

Go Vols!

SEC has won the national title 8 of the last 11 years. What else needs to be said? The ACC or B10 may surpass the SEC soon, but it hasn't happened yet. SEC is still the best conference in CFB from top to bottom, everyone knows it - even the media guys - except they may spin a different web just to sell clicks.

Last year there were plenty of "just beat FL - that's all that matters" posts here. It's really a good thing that FG kickers aim at fixed goal posts rather than the ones fans keep moving.

I've got a feeling that a win over AL and only 7 more wins would constitute failure and a lot of "it didn't mean much" followed by excuses that Bama was just not up for the game, etc. I've always wondered about the mental stability of those who are miserable in victory or success or any positive trend.

In the 90's and 2000's, it seemed the season rested on beating Bama or Fla. The dissapointment of losing to Fla in the beginning was relagated after beating Bama.

Last year tells us otherwise imo. Gotta worry about all of them and be ready to play.

KB, there used to be a time when just showing up won games. Even against better teams it seemed that that Orange was intimidating. Teams just didn't think they could win. Primarily Georgia (until CMR took over).

Does anyone remember the saying, "it depends on which team shows up".

It used to be that Vandy and KY didn't manage to sign 4* recruits to play football. In it's attempt to force parity, the NCAA has made some strange things happen to college football.

Don't know if you remember, but there was a joke about OJ Simpson hanging out at KY - nobody would ever think to look there for a football player.

Lol-that's funny!

I do vaguely remember something several years ago pertaining to Vandy lowering acceptance requirements.

Vandy has the same number of 4* recruits in their 2016 recruiting class, as they had in their 2003 recruiting class.

The difference maker is the number of 3* recruits they are getting now, verses prior years where the majority of their recruiting class were 2* athletes.

If we go 8-4 and beat Bama it means we lost 4 games to inferior opponents.

If you have the talent to beat Bama and lose 4 other games on our schedule, you need to find a new coach who can do more than a Taxslayer Bowl appearance with said talent.

True that. Gone are the days of the "Thrill of Victory.".
