Waiting for the rest of my parts to arrive to complete my build, but went ahead and hooked up my new 29" 21:9 2560x1080 IPS monitor.

Holy. Crap. I'm coming from a 23.8" 1080p monitor made in 2010. The colors and overall brightness are amazing, but the ultrawide format is a game changer. Gaming on this thing is an absolute joy, and surprisingly, almost all modern games support 21:9 either natively or with a few minor tweaks.

A new rig can make you a better player, and with the ultra wide your FOV is greater. When I built my latest rig (that is now aging) I went from middle of the pack in GW2 to leading a WvW guild and getting inside the top 50 PvPers a few times after getting a new rig.

Yeah, I'm already wanting to upgrade from the one I just bought two months ago! Right now I think a 34" 3440x1440p 100hz monitor is probably the absolute pinnacle of PC displays. Amazing for productivity and gaming.

Welp, I went a little crazy tonight and bought an Acer x34 34" ultrawide. 3440x1440, 100hz refresh rate. It's a refurb so "only" a little over $700.

Also recently sold my AMD 480 due to the cryptocurrency mining craze and bought a 980 Ti for $200. I suspect I'll buy a 1080 Ti soon due to the huge increase in resolution I'll have to power fairly soon.

The need to constantly upgrade a PC and related components is definitely a disease, and I'm a classic sufferer.

sweet! How you liking it? I'm looking at an ultrawide as well but only at the lower end ones.

I haven't received it yet. Should be here in a few days.

I currently have a lower-end ultrawide. The LG 29UM68-P. It's awesome, but I wanted something a little bigger and with adaptive sync + high refresh rate. The refurb price of the x34 was the absolute maximum I was willing to spend. I wanted to wait for the new HDR ultrawides, but they will probably cost $1,500+.

Just FYI to everyone with a PC, the Steam Summer Sale just started. Going through July 5th. Gonna be some good stuff on sale. Hoping a few select games go on sale enough for me to get them.

Got the Acer x34 yesterday and am still blown away by this thing. It's absolutely massive and somehow feels much bigger than the 29" ultrawide I replaced with it.

The aspect ratio and size of the monitor almost create a VR-like effect when you sit close to the screen, especially at 3440x1440 100 hz.

I also got pretty lucky with this model. Manufactured in Feb. 2017, which is well after they started fixing issues with the first versions of it. No dead pixels (that I can see), no coil whine, and easily overclocks to 100 hz. The only drawbacks are blacklight bleed in all four corners, but it's only noticeable in a very small part of the top left corner and only when viewed against a solid black background.

psssst....we got someone new joining the PC gamer ranks yesterday. cough*freak*cough

Glad to see you beat me here. lol.

As Rosen said, I picked up a PC this week and decided to go the gaming route. I've always been interested in PC gaming, but I've been more of a Mac guy. Hopefully I can adjust to mouse and keyboard. It should be interesting to say the least after playing all these years exclusively with a controller.

My steam user name is vol_freak, if anyone wants to add me.

for the C&C fans look into Company of Heroes. 1 is better than 2 and there is a free mod which makes it even better. Supreme Commander 2 is another. you can probably pick them up dirt cheap with the upcoming Christmas sale.

I don't play a lot of fps but am mostly strategy games. I think my name is jhandy2929 if you want to add me on steam.

*fixed

Tried to add you. A search for your name came up empty.

Everyone who plays PC add me I activated my steam account name is RedWingsEarned93 I play several gsmes dying light, killing floor 2, squad, several games. Add me, im.trying to make it my main gaming choice. Also what are some games on PC many of you enjoy? I've got the witcher and fallout also

Anyone have suggestions for must haves that are on sale right now?

I picked up a couple of old games that I wanted to play on PC: Left for Dead 2 for $1.99 and Borderlands GOTY edition for like $7. Oh, and Fallout New Vegas... I'm curious to see how all the mods work.

I also picked up Battlegrounds. I had to see what all the hype is about.

I really enjoyed Shadow of Mordor. It is on sale for $3.99 for the GotY edition. Also, the Tomb Raider games are on sale. The Civilization series are on sale as well as the Final Fantasy games if you are into them.

Also, you should add me on Steam. My gamertag is GreenNinja007.

I did actually grab Shadow of Mordor GOTY edition. I've heard good things and that's a great price.

I played one of the Tomb Raider games, but never could get into it. I've seen Final Fantasy but never played any of the games in the series. What's Civilization? I've seen it mentioned quite a bit lately.

I sent you a friend request.

Civilization is one of the best turned-based strategy game series ever made. One of the first, too. So if you are into strategy games I would suggest picking it up. I haven't gotten 6 because I have 5 and it's DLC so if you wanna try it out first I'd definitely give Civ 5 a shot since it should be much cheaper. Also, what are your thoughts on space exploration games? If you like space games you must give Elite Dangerous a look. Really good game.

And aight. I will accept it here in a minute.

If you're into Player vs. Player in massive environments, try Battlefield or Guild Wars 2. GW2 isn't great, but it is the best competitive scene out there at the moment that isn't a MOBA.

If I bought a new PC, I would probably get Arma 3 , hearts of iron 4, Civ 5. I'm not even a fan of first person shooters anymore, but Arma and all the mods looks amazing. Paradox makes amazing grand strategy games. and Civ 5 is the king of grand strategy games imo.
