'18 GA DE Jamarcus Chatman (Former UT commit 6/25/17)

UT offer was HUGE for him, Very high on the Vols. UT was his first SEC offer, it won't be his last. Ranking will go up, he will be a 4 star across the board. Rome is loaded with talent, has other teammates that are SEC level players, getting him will help with the others on his team. He will end up top247 IMHO.

Maybe I don't understand what you are saying. If we were his first offer and he was very high on Vols, why is having to decommit from LSU?

I am just confused as to how the numbers are going to work out in the event that we take Chatman. He is a "package deal" with Griffin - which I don't like - so that would put us currently at, what, four DL commits? We anticipate adding Emerson, and still have shots at a number of other blue chip defensive linemen.

Personally, I would rather make sure we get Emerson, and then sell out for Jordan Davis or Ojulari, rather than get Emerson and then fill up at D-line with one prospect (Griffin) who we have determined is marginal from the outset, and another who has a history of flipping (Chatman).

Yes, Griffin may bring in a connection to a running back next class and to Anderson. Who knows what next class will hold, and I just always feel like it is more of a gamble than I'm comfortable with to take kids in order to get other kids.

That said, my opinion doesn't matter, and I will continue to read this stuff and get either frustrated or happy depending on how the staff's moves jive with my understanding of the situations. So...Go Vols.
The numbers always seem to work out. I think maybe we're higher on Chatman than anyone thinks as well. The opportunity to get two more blue chip players in addition to him is just icing on the cake. Griffin is probably a marginal player but a lot of the times Butch gets stuff like this to work out. Not sure if he'll be a blueshirt or what but it will work out. It always does.

I doubt Griffin is a take. Chatman for sure is. He's a big-time player and he can play either End or DT in college, which is an added bonus when numbers are tight. He's already been bumped to a 4* on Scout and ESPN.

Chatman plus Emerson only adds more strength to our DL. Butch shouldn't be worried about numbers. Obviously he should know that DL is probably if not, the most important position in the SEC. Every game is won in the trenches. I don't see Griffin being a take either but you don't say no to Chatman if he wants in.

Agreed. Never turn down an impact Dlineman, especially one that could play multiple positions. Give me him, Emerson and an elite edge rusher like a Jordan Davis and you are talking about an elite DL haul.

I am guessing that LSU fans are saying that they told him to look around? I doubt that is the case. I would love to get this guy.

See, this is a far more appealing option to me. I was under the impression for some reason that Chatman had stated that he and Griffin were a package deal. I would be fine with Chatman by himself, because I feel like he is a versatile player with SEC potential. My question, I suppose, is whether or not Chatman is good enough to be saddled with Griffin as well, when we are currently in the running for so many additional premier defensive line prospects and it seems to have been established that Griffin is a more marginal talent.

Same rationale they used when missing out on hiring Tom Herman..."wouldn't get into a bidding war".

This was old about two days after Butch made the horrendously misquoted and taken out of context statement. I think it's time for you to move on from it. Most of us already have.

That's the whole act brah!

He is listed as a DE on some places and DT on others.

Where does he end up?

sorry if this has already been addressed.
