I don't know, maybe because they were using the same criteria most of the talking heads use (and uninformed fans parrot) whenever this is discussed. That being # of SB rings, which as I've said is not an indication of which QB is better. If it was, then people would agree that Jeff Hostetler was a better QB than Dan Marino or Fran Tarkenton (to cite just one example of this logical fallacy).
Numbers don't always tell the whole story, of course, But when you're just talking about production at the QB position (and not who played on the better team), it should at least be part of the discussion.
For instance, Brees was drafted the year after Brady. Neither of them started as rookies. Brady missed a season due to injury. So both have played 15 seasons as regular starters in their respective careers thus far.
Brees: 5,836 completions, 66.6% Cmp%, 66,111 yards, 465 passing TDs
Brady: 5,244 completions, 63.8% Cmp%, 61,582 yards, 456 passing TDs
Of course I'll concede that the Patriots have been better than the Saints over the course of their careers. But how do you make an argument that Brady has played the QB position better than Brees when you look at these numbers?
