Once Ty’s football recruiting got underway, Katrina made sure that programs’ won-loss records weren’t all that went into the decision. “Education and academics were the main things I was looking at, and I needed them to show me what they could do for my son in the classroom,” Katrina said of prospective schools. “I was looking at all of these Ivy League schools. My thought was I know he’s a great football player, but pick somewhere our money couldn’t have sent you, maybe Duke or Notre Dame, something like that.”

And then Katrina decided to take a visit to Tennessee to see for herself what Ty was all fired up about. “I was so impressed with Coach (Butch) Jones, the academics, the families and the environment at Tennessee, and it really did feel like home,” Katrina said. “I was looking all over the world, but the best place was right under our nose.”

Love seeing our players come from good family stock. Education first. I grew up a country boy and God blessed me with educational opportunities that have changed my life. God is good indeed. Amen.

Another example of a great young man. I listened to Litaker's interview the other day and it was "yes sir," "no sir," and very inspiring. I know we give Butch a hard time for how the recruiting process goes at times, but I am really impressed with the type of character our team has as a whole. That's really awesome and they represent our University well. I like that we do not just take any player based off of their talent alone. It's a privilege to play football at Tennessee. Now we need to win some football games!

I hope he's ready. He's going to be seeing plenty of action behind crazy legs this fall.

Might be wrong, but I could have sworn I read somewhere that he was limited due to a hamstring injury. Heck, I hope I'm wrong. Kid needs to hit the ground running....yeah...bad pun.

Heard the same, Hammies take time, hope its not hurting his weight room stuff because like all true freshmen, he probably isn't strong enough yet, not for the pounding that a RB takes in this league..

I can't add anything to that for sure. Butch is adding quality kids, men, and I can't wait to see them perform on the big stage. This Ty Chandler is going to be special.

He's on campus and participating in training and drills. It's a pulled hamstring, so he should be at full strength in another few weeks.
