Close losses in your first year as head coach with a losing team the season prior could be seen as a good sign. Butch, on the other hand, has had his share of inexplicable losses in his 4th season at Tennessee. The go-to excuse has been but..but..muh injuries. Sure injuries played a factor in losses, but even with those injuries, there was more talent and experience on the field vs the likes of USCe and Vandy. I guess to me, that may be a slight difference between praising moral victories in Kiffin's first year and with a starved fan base, and vilifying Jones after losing games we all know he shouldn't.

He isn't the first coach to simplify an offense to better suit his qb. He did good for Crompton's confidence, but let's not act like Kiffin was going to win at a high level here. He would have done better as an OC or QB coach, but no way he would have been here more than 3 years as UT head coach.

I said at the time of those losses last year that no excuses could explain it. It's not just last year,all 4 years people have held the losses against him and in some cases should but to give every other coach the okay and not him doesn't seem right.

Nothing Lane Kiffin says carries any weight with me. He adds no value to any conversation, and has no legitimacy in discussions of our program. This will be true whether he expresses an opinion that is in line with mine or not.

Kiffin inherited a team that had 3 players drafted in the first 2 rds and won 7 games. Comparable talent on his past years team and Butch won 9.

The 2009 Vols were very talented. Don't be naive.

He made him offensive coordinator because he led a team with a nfl 2 rd pick at running back to TEN points in 60 minutes. 5th rd pick at qb too

And there's even more difference between a 10-win season/Division Title/SECCG appearance and a 5-7 season or 7-6 season....it's much better. Also, let's take it a step further...let's get a little better sample size. Fulmer' last 5 seasons (the ones that ultimately led to his firing) were collectively better than the one average to poor Kiffin season that you've touted. Come on man, you surely know this.

I had to google him when he was hired.

I found out he was a prick.........but for a while, he was our prick.

The worst things about him leaving, were not him leaving, but his timing and how he handled himself with the recruits that he tried to talk out of going to class. (along with his trusty sidekick orgeron). then along came dooley!

Agree with all of this. When he started replacing UT decorations and videos with USC stuff, I thought that was just insulting to our tradition.

1. Wasn't thrilled with his hiring, only supported him once he became our coach, had no choice, wanted the team to succeed. He was a failed NFL coach with no college head coaching experience. The hiring was beyond a reach.

2. Only "went nuts" over how and in the the utterly classless way he left....made worse by some of the details, including him telling new players like Bray to not go to class at Tennessee so the possibility they could transfer to USC was in play.

I knew who he was at the time....former successful USC OC under Carroll, wildly UNsuccessful Raiders coach who was evidently despised by his owner. It was a dubious, head-scratching hire imo. I thought he was good on Saturdays, but he left the program in a mess, much worse off than he found it.

Kiffin was a disgrace to the TN VOLS program. He hung up pics of former USC greats in the locker room instead of UT legends, more secondary violations than you get shake a stick at, classless jerk, liar, had Ed O try to convince 2010 recruits like Bray to go to USC, brash but couldn't back it up, lost to a bad UCLA team at Neyland, would not even shake Frank Beamer's hand after his azz got taken out back behind the woodshed, ran off many of the players Fulmer recruited leaving little depth in 2010, his lone recruiting class was full of overhyped players that did not amount to much, beat arguably one of Richt's worst teams like a drum (big deal), and a life time OC that should have never been given the keys to Neyland. BTW, he only went 7-6!!!! Thankfully CBJ possesses none of these horrible qualities and has embraced the traditions at UT. Go VOLS, haters flame.
