Wiggins on campus

He has always had the physical attributes and he potential, but hasn't been able to seem to apply himself. Maybe being a senior and having the competition will motivate him. And maybe Coach Warren can help turn that potential into production.

E Mosley and B Buchanon will push for the spot as well. And I think M Osborne is a player and may push for it also

He was also heart for a lot of last season. The kid has been really good when he has stayed on the field.

can someone give the back story on this? I think he transferred to Louisville because of the Georgia coach he followed then when that coach moved to miss st he took a visit there recently. Any background anybody? And didn't that coach have previous Tennessee ties?

He went to UGA out of high school and made the conference all-freshman team (I think) there. Then he followed his defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to Louisville two years ago and played great until sustaining an injury that made him miss a lot of last season. Wiggins decided to transfer again after Grantham left Louisville for Miss st, so a lot of people assumed Wiggins would follow Grantham again. He then committed to UT a couple of months ago and everything seemed fine till he took a last minute trip down to Starkville to see their pitch. He ultimately decided to stick with his Tennessee commitment and said that he just visited State as a favor to Grantham (That's pretty embarrassing for them, that Wiggins said that) and got to Tennessee yesterday ready to enroll.

He will help us greatly this year! Really softens the blow of losing Cam Sutton. He may in fact be better than Sutton and I know that's saying a lot, but if he's healthy, he can really ball!

Honest ?, If he is so good, why didn't he go NFL?

The story on him is he has been injured a lot of his career. Pretty small 5'9 172, but great coverage skills. He didn't jive with Pruitt after he was hired at UGA and transferred to Lousville. But when he played before and after that at Louisville he looked pretty good. He has NFL potential because of his 4.3 speed and closing ability, and was a four star recruit. His and UT's fate as a whole seem to reside in wheather or not we can stay healthy this year. But yeah, Wiggins looks to start most definitely.

I don't like the scheme that we run on defense..i don't think the scheme will fit wiggins..just my opinion..we need to run more press man on the outside..let all the zone crap go let these kids ball..

The scheme gets resolved as soon as we have 3 LB's that can get on, and stay on, the field.

Get the front 7 doing what shoop typically has done from a pressure stand point, and we may see more press from dbs.

I agree with you on this, I believe Shoop's defence in a 4-3 will be a lot better than the nickel he had to run last year. That's his moneymaker.

yeah, i get why so many doubt shoop given last year's end results.

but, personnel wise, we didn't even start the season with a typical 4-3, which i what he's always run.

this year, at least there'll be 3 functioning LB's on the field.

still thin on the line a little bit, but barring the injury plague hitting us again on the line and at LB, maybe we'll see more of what we saw from him at Vandy and PSU, schematically and pressure wise.

how good or bad we may be this year, will have more to do with the quality depth of the players in the end.

Yes,again that word injury comes up. With the thin depth I think injuries are the most important factor for them. Staying somewhat healthy they can build a little depth as the season goes along, hopefully.

If Wiggins can come in and make the impact you all are saying,I agree with it all. Just like everything else tho,I'm not sure what to expect to happen so I'll just wait and see.

to say we, as a fan base, are a little skittish at the thought of injuries is an understatement, and warranted.....given how the last 3 years have gone in that department.

it's all 'ifs' at this point. nothing set in stone, and i don't think it's close to a finished product yet either.
