D4H's 2017 NFL Draft Review (Best Picks, Best Drafts, and Predictions)

Dobbs torched UF to the tune of like 87 yards passing on 19 attempts in 2015.

Argue with Jon Gruden. He said he never saw a performance at Tennessee like what Josh Dobbs did in the Swamp that year against Florida.

It was an epic individual performance. Josh put the team on his back and defeated a NFL caliber defense by himself before Butch Jones chocked it away by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

You think an NFL coach is willingly going to allow his QB to run 12-15 times per game (at minimum) to amass 100 yards? He'd have to avg 7 YPR on 15 rushes to get to 100 yards, which doesn't happen with any consistency in the NFL. More likely will need 20+ carries to reach that mark, and that won't happen. Dobbs rushing yards in college came from breakdowns in the pocket. With the great Steelers OL you speak of he shouldn't be scrambling for his life. Therefore, the yards will have to come from designed QB runs.

I never said he would rush for 100 yards every game. All I said is he would make 300/100 games look more common. There have only been 2 300-yard passing and 100-yard rushing games in NFL history. I've predicted Josh can equal that in his first 16 starts in the NFL. He doesn't need to rush for 100 yards every game. He just needs to do it once in a while.

jon gruden said he never saw a performance at tennessee like what josh dobbs did in 2015 against florida. He said it was the best performance of dobbs career. Josh became the first ncaa football player in more than a decade to lead his team in passing, rushing, and receiving yards. Beyond stats, that was a game that had to be seen to be appreciated. Josh put the entire tennessee football team on his back that day and almost single-handedly beat a nfl caliber defense. Just go and look back at the names on that florida defense. It was a filthy group and josh single handedly beat them before butch jones snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with his boneheaded calls.

Florida has more success in producing impact nfl defensive players than alabsma so i put more stock in performing against florida's defense than bust-u's defense.

He. Threw. For. Less. Than. 90. Yards.

And. No. Touchdowns.

Now, I will note that Dobbs ran for almost 140 yards and converted some big 3rd downs.

But if you watched that game and said to yourself "there's a guy who might be the best QB in NFL history" then you are a liar or an idiot.

He had no offensive line and his receivers couldn't get off the line against a Florida secondary that featured 5 future 1st or 2nd round draft picks.

You see this is the difference between me and Jon Gruden looking at the tape versus you and the ignorant masses just looking at stats.

Given the circumstances based on the talent around him on that offense versus the talent on that defense it was an EPIC performance. Josh Dobbs willed his team to victory if not for Butch Jones incompetence.

Allow me to repeat this, so that it might somehow sink into your thick, ignorant skull:

He threw for less than 99 yards and no TDs.

There is no tape in which that looks like a good quarterbacking performance.

You underestimate competitive will. Dobbs torched the all-star Florida secondary the following year for 300 yards passing and 4 TDs. So if you want stellar passing, go watch that game.

The 2015 game showed his competitive will and how he could put a team on his back to single handedly beat a defense with significantly more talent than the offense he was on.

There is no other QB that could have done what Josh did that day against that type of defense with his supporting cast. No one.

Pretty sure he been proven to be both.

Jake Coker lit that same UF up throwing to a supporting cast that you have guaranteed will be NFL busts.

Jon Gruden called it the best performance of Dobbs career and one of the best he's ever seen at Tennessee.

Dobbs has many more games that are statistically more impressive. So it's not like Gruden was reaching for this game to make Dobbs look good. If it's about stats, he could have picked Dobbs game in 2016 against Florida when he threw for 300+ yards and 4 passing TDs. But he zeroed in on this game as the best of Dobbs career.

Obviously he saw the tape of that game the same way I did because I considered it the best game of Dobbs stellar Tennessee career as well. He was a man among boys that day and made a Florida defense filled with NFL caliber players look silly time after time. And he did it with practically no help from his offensive line and receivers.

Gruden must have seen like I did how the offensive line totally collapsed on every pass attempt early in the game nearly getting Dobbs killed. He also must have seen like I did in the total inability of Tennessee's receivers to get separation against the Florida DBs. Given those circumstances and Butch Jones incompetence it was an EPIC performance.

Jon Gruden gushed over Vince Young.

The issue here isn't Jon Gruden gushing over Dobbs. Its the fact he choose the 2015 game as Dobbs best performance at Tennessee and saying it was one of the best performances he had ever seen.

If Gruden wanted to gush over Dobbs he could have picked a number of other games where Dobbs was more productive statistically through the air. But he picked this game because he sees it the same way I did. He saw the adversity Dobbs faced and how he rose above it. What Josh did that day was special and if not for Butch Jones incompetence it would have gone down as one of the most legendary performances in Tennessee football history.

Jake Coker lit that same UF up throwing to a supporting cast that you have guaranteed will be NFL busts.

Alabama's offensive line was significantly better than Tennessee. That alone makes the comparison invalid. Tennessee's offensive line is FCS caliber compared to Alabama.

And second you forget that Alabama struggled to move the ball early that game. Florida actually led early on. It wasn't until the Florida defense got tired because of their offenses total inability to move the ball that they started letting Jake Coker go off on them. And honestly that was more Calvin Ridley who is significantly better than any receiver Josh Dobbs ever had. Calvin Ridley was the star of the pass game that day not Jake Coker. He was the one who made spectacular plays on 50/50 balls.

Switch Jake Coker with Josh Dobbs that game and you get the same result if not much better. Switch Josh Dobbs with Jake Coker in the Swamp against that defense with the offensive line Tennessee had and you would see Nate Peterman 2013 all over again.

Also no one believes you thought anything about that game until you saw Gruden praise it.

I may or may not have said explicitly that it was the best performance of Dobbs career. I honestly don't remember. You should ask KBVol since he has better memory of my post history than I do.

Regardless it has been my favorite performance of Josh Dobbs career and I have consistently said was great performance since it happened and I have degended it against all the revisionist clowns who try to diminish it because of the lack of passing yards. After that game I remember almost everyone praised Dobbs for his performance and said it was Butch Jones that robbed the team of what should have been a sure win.

Once again, that would be a great game as a football player, which Josh Dobbs is a very good football player. He's just nothing that screams NFL legend. Tim Tebow is probably one of the best football players when he played, but was a bad NFL QB. We are debating how good Dobbs is as a QB, not how good he is as a football player.

We all know, but yourself how good Dobbs is as a QB. He is closer to Brett Hundley than he is Randall Cunningham.

83 passing yards, 136 rushing, 58 receiving.

and how does that second paragraph make sense to even you? He did so good in your world vs an all NFL defense, but he does bad vs bust-u's NFL defense? this is why people say you waffle.

But Coker had nothing but busts around him while UF's defense was all-NFL. These are your assessments. Live with them.

Josh Dobbs rarely does bad. Its typically Butch Jones incompetence that costs us games. Against Alabama he just wasn't able to overcome the lack of help around him and the lack of competent coaching.

There are only so many times you can expect Dobbs to pull a rabbit out of his hat. Against Alabama in 2015 he wasn't able to. Alabama 2016 was just not a fair game to judge Josh because everyone else on the team got hurt. That was a mismatch in every sense of the word.
