D4H's 2017 NFL Draft Review (Best Picks, Best Drafts, and Predictions)

Josh will equal that by himself in his first 16 starts.

He'll be the guy that makes 300/100 games a more common occurence.

Remember before Josh went for 300/100 as a sophomore against South Carolina that only Johnny Manziel and Tim Tebow had done it before in SEC history. And only Manziel did it more than once. Josh joined him the following year as the only player in SEC history with 2 career games of 300 yards passsing and 100 yards rushing.
Lol you're such a damn clown, but you entertain me.

So, a guy who rushed for 100 and threw for 300 all of twice in 37 career games in college is suddenly going to be a threat to do it "in any game" in the NFL?

I think I'll just refrain from analyzing this proposition. If you're not going to spend a single second thinking about it, why should I?

funny, he was just talking about how yards were a dumb way to measure the success of a QB....

Elite intangibles? The knock on him his entire career has been his accuracy and decision making.

Maybe to the ignorant masses. Dobbs has no issues with his accuracy or decision. He's sometimes inconsistent which is normal for a young player. Once he gets better coaching in the NFL and has better talent around him, those inconsistencies will decrease.

Really now? How often did Dobbs hit his second read or his checkdown? I'll give you a hint, not very often.

Two things:

1. He won't be facing college defenses.

2. Before last season, you claimed that UT had 14 likely NFL starters on the roster. That is more talent than any other college team by a country mile. What happened? Bad evaluation?

Tennessee's pro talent was not along the offensive line. In fact their offensive line didn't even have SEC caliber players. That along with Butch Jones bad coaching hindered Dobbs in college.

In Pittsburgh, Josh won't just have NFL caliber players, he will have DOMINANT NFL players alongside him. Antonio Brown is a Hall of Fame caliber wide receiver. Martavis Bryant is one of the most explosive players in the NFL. JuJu Smith-Shuster is a Dez Bryant/Anquan Boldin caliber player. Then you have an offensive line with 3 pro-bowlers. And finally you have arguably the best all-around RB in the NFL in Le'Veon Bell lined up behind him. And if all that talent isn't enough, Josh will also have infinitely better coaching in Pittsburgh than he did at Tennessee. Comparing Todd Haley to Mike Debord as an offensive mind is laughable. And I don't even need to mention Mike Tomlin (who has already won one super bowl and been to another) to Butch Jones.

Josh is already insanely talented. Putting him on a team like Pittsburgh only makes his path to greatness inevitable. I already believed Dobbs could have been an elite QB in the NFL even if he ended up in Cleveland. Him landing in a perfect situation like Pittsburgh makes the likelihood he becomes a superstar in the NFL a certainty.

Ignorant masses? Could you go ahead and start a cult to your own greatness? But, for the sake of expediency, just skip finding a flock and go straight for the cyanide-laced kool-aid.

If didnt have accuracy issues he would have went in the 1st round.

NFL teams aren't exactly known for being able to judge QB accurately. Just look at the number of first round QBs that flame out and the numbers of guys taken in day 2 or 3 that become stars.

The fact Josh fell to the fourth round has nothing to do with him actually having any issues with his accuracy. It has to do with the fact NFL teams are stupid when it comes to evaluating QBs.

He did it consistently. Go back and watch the tape. Specifically the Nebraska game. Its on YouTube and the offensive line actually gave Dobbs time to actually to through his progressions.

Josh is actually great at going through his reads quickly and hitting his second or third progression consistently. He just rarely got a chance because he barely got time to even get to his first read because the offensive line was so bad.

When Dobbs got time he was great at going through progressions and hitting his second or third read.

According to you they had a few likely NFL startera on that line. Want me to find the list for you?

Hmm. With all that talent, why has it been 9 years since they won the whole thing? I mean, with all that dominance and elite coaching, no one should touch them, right?

Still waiting on that wager. Of course, I'm also waiting on your permission to send your greatest hits to the Titans scouting staff, and that offer has been open for months.

Idk which Josh Dobbs you watched the last three years.

More than half the starting QBs in the NFl were taken in the first round. That's a pretty good clip.

I did think Coleman Thomas could develop into a good NFL center at one point. I will admit I was wrong about that. He regressed from what I thought was an impressive sophomore season. Tennessee did not have an SEC caliber offensive line last year. Let alone having any NFL caliber lineman.

Steelers haven't lived up to their talent lately because of injuries. Big Ben, Bell, Brown, and Bryant have barely played any games together. For the last 3 years one or more of them have had to miss significant time. They've also had the unfortunate luck of playing in the same conference as the Patriots who seem to be great every year regardless of who is on their team. Dobbs will be the missing piece that puts the Steelers over the top in their matchup with the Patriots.

This is probably my favorite thread on VN right now.

You never know what you're gonna get from D4H when you open it. The gymnastics he performs in this thread on a day to day basis are insanely entertaining. Keep up the good work please.

Idk which Josh Dobbs you watched the last three years.

The one that left Tennessee as 2nd all-time in TDs and 3rd all-time in yards. And who on a per game basis averaged more yards and TDs than Peyton Manning.

That is the Josh Dobbs I watched the last 3 years.

Arguably the best offensive player in program history.

You're a funny man.

You're a funny man.

Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don't.

On a per game basis, Dobbs averaged more total yards per game and more total TDs per game than Peyton Manning over his career. He led the 2016 Tennessee offense to a school record for points scored and total TDs. And he did this all behind a FCS caliber offensive line.

The pure numbers say Dobbs is the best offensive player in school history. Add in the degree of difficulty given the lack of talent along the offensive line and it just screams it.

Good point. So you admit you're wrong about Joey Boss I would assume?

There is no argument to be had..... Simply asinine.

I never said Bosa could never have a good season. Vince Young won offensive rookie of the year one season and made a pro bowl in another. He's still one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

All I ever said about Bosa is that he will be a bust. Even busts have one lucky season.

Ah, right.

Dance, puppet, dance.

Want me to quote the multiple posts where you claim that you don't care about stats because they lie? And I mean there were multiple posts from you yesterday.

If you actually read my post I said Dobbs is ARGUABLY the best offensive player in school history. I didn't say he was without a doubt the best offensive player in school history and then cited the numbers as definitive proof.

When I say stats can lie, I mean with regard to treating them as definitive proof. Great stats do however put you in the argument. That is all I said there. I said Dobbs was ARGUABLY the best offensive player in school history.

I didn't even see Peyton Manning play at Tennessee. I was too young. So I can't really compare them and their situations. All I do know is that the numbers place Dobbs in that conversation.

I didn't respond to your general Dobbs take. I was pointing out your sudden reliance on stats when just yesterday numbers lie constantly.

Numbers don't constantly lie. They just sometimes do. Which is why I always say go to the tape. I wasn't impressed with Bosa's tape that is why his numbers didnt impress me in turn.

Dak Prescott put up big numbers last year and his tape also impressed me. Zeke Elliott put to numbers that impressed me last year and so did his tape. Bosa's tape simply didn't match the impressive stats he put up.

I've never said stats don't matter. Just that they are not dispositive. That is why I said Dobbs was ARGUABLY the best offensive player in school history. If I believed stats were dispositive, I would have said he's the clear cut best offensive player in school history. But I didn't say that.
