Who thinks Canales is a "C" hire now?

You can slow play this all you want but for Canales to go head to head with OU and Lincoln Riley(one of the nation's top OCs), with OU sending their "liquored up" QB to NY for Heisman ceremony and Tennessee having a stand out freshman QB, and coming out the winner for a 4* QB is pretty damn strong recruiting. And none of you expected that from a guy from North Texas now admit it!

Canales has a pretty decent record with QBs.

We all know CBJ can sell. He's got to start getting results on the field to match the talent.

This Thread is about Canales, why do you need to rub Butch's nose in the dirt.

Negativity when it isn't needed! I am no Sunshine pumper but come on, your negativity is obvious. There are other teams you could go cheer for and I am sure the Vols would appreciate it if you did!!!:)

At this point he has a commitment under his belt. If he coaches his QBs well this fall his perception will improve.
Until then all you have is a commitment and hope

Agree 100%, but it's funny how it can't be just that for some. Haha, makes it interesting I guess.

Because Canales has been with the program for less than six months, and CBJ is UT Football's best salesman? Pretending that CBJ doesn't have a hand in that recruitment is laughable.

With your abject hero worship of Butch Jones, will you follow him to his next coaching stop? He's relatively successful in 2nd-tier and lower conferences, you'll be able to bask in the sunshine even in the off-season.

You're honestly trying too hard. You KNOW what's going to happen, why don't you slow down and let reality catch up to you? :)

Every post you have made in the past 5 months is a bashing of Butch Jones, He has mad several improvements to the Tennessee Program and you only see the negative. There is no arguing that! Has there been bad as well? yes just like every other program in the country.

I remain loyal to the University of Tennessee becausem I am a VFL, you may need to find another team to cheer for that meets your expectations, maybe Alabama?

The issue is you have a problem with Butch that is fine but that doesn't mean every area of the program is bad. Sorry for whoever pissed in your beard, it must have been a sad day in your world.

On Sunday until gameday, he's a B+, on gameday he lives down to his 51st ranking. Loyalty doesn't mean blindly sunshine pumping 24/7. Loyalty also includes telling it how it is when it's not good.

Not having the expectation to be a great program is what produces mediocrity.

We are as good as we have been historically, how is that mediocre? We are winning 9 games and beating ranked Power 5 teams in Bowl games.

You think Fulmer is the measuring stick with we played in a 2 team league during the 90s? If Fulmer coached in his prime currently we would be exactly where we are right now. Fulmer would be out recruited by Saban year in and year out. Fulmer would be losing to Alabama just like Butch is...

Realistically, who in the country would you liek to have coaching right now that would without a doubt get us over the 9-3 hump in the SEC? That would actually take the job?

Who?

I look around the country and the coaching profession is not that high right now. Saban? Meyer? Dabo? who would want to be at Tennessee right now and could get us to where most fans think we should be?

I'll hang up and listen...:)

Let's see... Lovie Smith, Wittingham, Craig Bohl, Kevin Wilson, Gary Andersen, Gary Patterson, Pat Narduzzi, among others. SEC coaching is poor, especially the SEC East. It might be hilarious that Derek Mason might be the best gameday coach in the SEC.

First of all, 9 wins in 2017 is not the same as 9 wins in 1985. Our historical average corresponding to Deflation is about 10.5 wins.

In conclusion, there are at least 30 coaches who are better than Jones, and that excludes the likes of John Bonmego and other mid major options.

I don't see a coach on that list that could beat Saban on a regular basis on the field or at recruiting?

You are willing to trade one average joe for another. If all those coaches are so good then why have none of them been hired in the SEC?

None of those coaches want to come to the SEC as long as Saban is here, what do you bet?

You are drawing at straws, there isn't a coach out there that is willing to come to Tennessee that can do what this fan base thinks they should do.

That is exactly why Butch will be here through 2018 at minimum barring a complete melt down this year.

You didn't even mention James Franklin who I think could do great here, the only catch is....HE DOESN'T WANT TO COME HERE!!!!!

So instead of trying to improve, we should stay mediocre because it's stable? Also, money talks loudly.

Money doesn't guarantee success Boss!!!

A bad coaching hire could send us back to post Fulmer. Change just to change is never good!

We have moved in the right direction, change isn't needed! The program is still moving forward, not backward!!!!

Unless you get a slam dunk hire you are risking everything that has been built in the last 4 years for an unknown, last time we did that we got Dooley!!!

Logic says wait, but this is VolNation!!!:)

Bohl is a 4x FCS national championship who turned around Wyoming.

The program ovrerall is peaked under Jones last year. The obvious sign is that he still can't win the east despite the coaches being mediocre at best. Yes, we moved in the right direction until last year since Dooley was canned, but our talent level is already declining.

Who's not trying to improve?

Jones is obviously trying to improve, but he would have to change the conservative philosophy he has. Running HUNH and playing a field position game will always hurt us.

Disagree with you.

1) Every coach in the SEC East from McElwain to Barry Odom are not good. This is a product of bad hires and Nick Saban

2) The 2014 class is the best class Jones has had, and the cream of that crop left.

3) We still haven't hit above .500 in the SEC despite being the most talented team in the SEC East last year.

4) The obvious downgrade in play when starters were out.

5) The severe lack of player development was proven last year when players got hurt

It seems like you are more loyal to Butch Jones than you are to University of Tennessee, otherwise you'd want what's best for the program, even if that means replacing Butch Jones. I'm not emotionally attached to Butch Jones the way that you are, or any coach for that matter. I want UT Football to succeed, and I want them to have a coach who gives them the best chance to do that. If Butch finally has it together, and can show that he is more than a sub .500 SEC coach, then by all means he should be retained. However, what we've seen in 4 seasons does not lend to that being the case, and if 2017 continues to show him trending to .500 or worse in conference-play, then five years is enough of an exercise in mediocrity for the program.

Feel free to to show your magnanimous loyalty to Butch by following him to whichever MAC/AAC school hires him when he leaves UT.

Saying THIS means THAT especially when THIS, still falls under the auspice of opinion. I can spin everything you stated and it wouldn't make me more right or you more wrong. These "facts" haven't happened yet. 7 wins could end up being Butch's death bell OR it could show an improvement in teaching. :dunno: Your opinion about decreasing talent could bear true OR be exposed as misguided depending on the ACTUAL PLAYERS and their performance.
