Who thinks Canales is a "C" hire now?

Whoa there Nelly. Who called him a C hire? I admit he wasn't very high up on the list of potential suitors, but he wasn't a C hire. He's got a long history as a QB/AHC coach and was nearly hired as the HC of UNT a couple times (he was interim there).

And why are you praising him for 2 QB commits that mean nothing right now? At least let them sign first and see how our QBs do this season before you draw any opinions on the guy...

Ok, I will upgrade him to Banales.

It's fairly simple for me...rarely do I base my opinions on what Volnation posters think. THEY are the ones (generally speaking of course) who have garnered a failing mark over the past several years. All over the board with opinions on players/coaches with no logical football understanding at all... JMO of course.

If you give a failing grade to fans that have consistently been near the top of attendance, despite the gut-wrenching decade we've had, then your opinion is the failure here, imho.

Can we pump the brakes before we put him in the same spot we put butch?

Step 1. He's not a great hire

Step 2. OMG! Look at his recruiting, we'll win the East!

Step 3. Look at those results, FARR BUTCH!

What if some of you aren't fans but addicts?

Failing grade then?

Are fans always miserable?

Sounds more to me like the crash and burns of a coke fiend.

Look, its not about Canales. The anti crowd just hate him because Butch hired him. Just fill in the blank and it will be hated by many because they just hate Butch.

Good call. That's the catch all response regardless.

He does have to sign and is a long time between now and February but I think you can be graded for recruiting at a high level.

At this point he has a commitment under his belt. If he coaches his QBs well this fall his perception will improve.
Until then all you have is a commitment and hope

Many media know-it-alls rated him a "C" hire. He's looking pretty now, isn't he?

He's been on the job for barely a couple months and UT has yet to play any actual games or get a commit's signature on the dotted line. This is the definition of "jumping the gun."

Am hoping qb play this year makes us question why we didn't bring in qb coach for Dobbs. Initially it appears focus on the position is translating in recruiting and spring ball. Too soon to give out grades but like inteangibles so far.

I'm not sure how much responsibility Canales actually had to do with it, but Dormady looked awesome in the spring game. He was accurate, poised, and in total control of the offense. From what I saw, we may have the best QB in the SEC, maybe the nation. Of course, we will have to see how it folds out in the fall. However, I do feel a lot better now given the absence of Dobbs. GBO!

considering how depleted our defense was during the spring game, it isn't surprising he played well. but best in the sec, best in the nation? c'mon. lets get back to reality.

If the QBs hadn't looked good in practice or the O&W Game, opinions concerning Canales percentage wouldn't be so conservative. :)

Don't know about his coaching yet but the spring game looked good, the recruiting is getting results and he's given us some positive press with giving a lady his seat for Mother's Day. Seems like a great hearted guy who will give us his all for giving him the opportunity.

it is way too early to place a grade on this coach. He would have better background if he had some SEC experience and success in the SEC. I have yet to see him coach an SEC QB to success or failure to give him any grade. And no, getting a high school commitment doesn't get him a grade either. Let the kid first sign and then perform before giving credit to a coach.. JMO
I agree but to heck with it, let people be excited. It's better than the usual.

He's only been part of the program for such a small amount of time, how can we judge anything that about his time here?

Although our QBs went 14 of 15 in the O&W game we got a commitment from the #3 QB prospect, that's something.

Still too early to tell, that could have happened without him just the same.

He did give up his seat, he gets an "A" for that, but that's life and not football, so discount it to a "B",

You can slow play this all you want but for Canales to go head to head with OU and Lincoln Riley(one of the nation's top OCs), with OU sending their "liquored up" QB to NY for Heisman ceremony and Tennessee having a stand out freshman QB, and coming out the winner for a 4* QB is pretty damn strong recruiting. And none of you expected that from a guy from North Texas now admit it!
