update on neyland stadium renovations?

If you went to the Texas A&M game last season you'd realize Neyland needs more than a coat of paint and another Jumbotron.

Neyland is like Fenway Park. It has a ton of history but sitting at awkward angles with obstructed views is only cool because it's Fenway is equal to the cramped rows at Neyland. It's not just the seat width but the width between rows...especially on the W. Sideline.

This x1000. Kyle Field was the nicest stadium I've been to personally. Neyland needs to widen the upper concourses, increase the bathrooms, and possibly widen the seats. I sit beside a rather friendly but larger lady, and my 3 seats become an uncomfortable two very quickly.

And Kyle field had only 4 gates I think, but the process of getting in was smooth and quick. Takes me much longer to get in at Neyland.

Stadium is horrible. You have some nice improvements but the south and east side are terrible. The erector set is rusted.

I wonder if anyone knows what they're doing. The stadium lacks exterior green space and concourse. I can't believe they built a new building in the shadow of the stadium. They need to bulldoze estabrook and create a green space concourse on the south east waterfront.

They also should have built a parking garage by the education building (which was originally planned, and green spaced the ugly parking lot across from the West side entrance. Instead they put a ridiculous brick wall to border the ugly parking lot.

Butch put up that wall brick by brick! Give the man some credit for his superb masonry job!

Paint won't stop the rust.

That's true, it will take a complete restoration to remove the rust and prepare it before painting. It has become a real eyesore. I'm shocked of the complete lack of maintenance over the years. But, I'm guessing that when the get around to it they will just cover it in paint and move on.

I remember reading last year that the feasibility study for the renovations was completed last October. The initial phase is going to be $106 million which of course will require legislative approval. It will be a long time though. That initial phase isn't slated to begin until between the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The objectives will include renovating the south grand level and relocating the visitor's locker room. The south concourse will be renovated from the ground up. There will also be many chair back seats added while striving to maintain that all important 100,000 seating capacity.

There will also be a kitchen and commissary additions made and a handrail expansion in the upper bowl. I don't remember seeing anything about a new jumbotron.

A rusty orange flaky handrail tore a hole in my brand new Nike shirt trying to squeeze by some people at the Florida game. I say it just needs some paint, another Jumbotron and fix the bathrooms.

So that's what broke the Curse. Do it again for every big game!

Paint once over dust and twice over rust! I hope they have some preventative maintenance program for such a place. Has great potential.

yes the team needs more green space in order to win games. plus I think they need to build a safe place for the fans so no one has to go through a loss by themselves. Of course there needs to be some counselors there as well...but there is more expense....this is so distressing, I need my momma :cray:
