Martinez committs

I know a lot of kids want to come in and be a day one starter and become an instant star, but if Martinez comes in with patience, works hard, and takes a RS season he will have plenty of time to be a great QB at Tennessee. He may even get the starting job sooner if he can win it. But I like the fact that he committed knowing it will be a competitive position. I know a lot of college recruiters red flag a recruit if he begins mentioning the depth chart and is weary of competition. I also like seeing us stock the roster with talent QBs.

Regardless, this is a great get and I am very excited about how the 2018 class is coming together.

WINNERS live to compete - they aint skeered of no competition ;)

Martinez isn’t concerned with following in Josh Dobbs’ footsteps, either. In fact, he welcomes it.

“I want that challenge,” Martinez said. “I want the duty of following after a Joshua Dobbs and the high expectations that Tennessee holds for themselves, I feel like I can handle that pressure and I want to welcome it. There’s very good connections at Tennessee and I just feel like Cal didn’t have the same.”

AND hes going to be an EE!

We are getting help from current commits/players big time, again.
Seems the silence last yr may have been the anomaly.
As Jake suggested, we are getting the recruiting results from our new coaches and we are hearing from the boys again also.

Great news and this class is off to a hell of a start!

From all the tweets, it seemed like Jat. Harris was doing some recruiting work on Martinez. As I am sure, so were many other current players and commits

Starting to come together. Let's keep this going. I'm in the minority, but I'm very optimistic about 2017.

Same reason JG doesn't transfer if Dormady wins the starting nod. The great ones live to compete. Sheriron competed and THEN moved on.

Yep. If butch is smart he'll let jg get in some meaningful reps even if he doesn't win the job. Qd only has 2 seasons left. That would leave jg with 2 seasons. If Martinez ends up here and waits his turn, it would leave him 2 years to start

Just moved to within 7 minutes of Clovis West this past December, moved to northwest side of San Antonio, 17 minutes from Boerne, just before Dormady committed, and moved to Las Vegas just before C J Watson committed. Where do I take this western karma next? Say Arizona, I like AZ.

GBO '76, '79 Suck on it Bammers!

Then we could get Spencer Rattler, the best name in all of recruiting right now

Move next to about 5 DTackles!! Again, Vols are NOT deep enough at DTackle and LB.. Achilles heel!

I wonder if not hearing from "the boys" had anything to do with the problems with some of their teammates? A little conflict caused by a few (maybe two) like we had last year (and maybe before) could have been more of a problem within the ranks than we knew.

Back in the dickey days, he went after high school QB's. I heard him say their football IQ's made them really good players at any position they were big enough to play.
