Your life must be really sad to make fun of players winning rings over a bowl game. They worked their ass off all season and that's the best you can come up with? Find better material my friend.

Lighten up Josh. My post was just a jab at the Champions of Life comment and nothing more. I have no issue with the Bristol rings or the MCB rings.

A couple of years ago I won my bar in a bar poker league. They actually gave me a trophy! WTF?

Although, I did put in a lot of hours drinking beer, vodka, and eating wings while performing at a high level and maintaining a job.

I still tossed the trophy.

Rings are for WINNERS......of CHAMPIONSHIPS! Getting a ring for a regular season game,and a lower tier bowl (especially since you missed out on the Sugar) is ridiculous. At the very least don't publicize it....it's embarrassing for the entire program. (You think Bama gives out participation rings?) By doing so you marginilize the process, and minimize the accomplishments of previous Volunteers that actually won something of consequence.

I know a couple a lettermen that are absolutely in disbelief over this.

I know a guy that still wears his Cotton Bowl watch from 1968. This has been happening forever. It's not for us. It's for them. They know what they did and didn't accomplish.

That was an accomplishment worth commemorating. Fewer bowls, and the Cotton was a biggie.

My rant is less about the bowl, though that is marginal, and moreso about the BoB ring. If you combine the two...again, a regular season game, and a lower tier bowl, in the same year....it approaches the level of absurd

Participation trophies are weak. Just ask any Letterman who actually won a championship in their time on the Hill.

Always order the largest size so you get more gold.

Super Bowl, NC, Conf Championship are the three that count the most, the rest are nice to have.

There were 11 bowl games back then so it's a little different than now.

I think we can all agree that we haven't been one of the elite teams for the past 15 years or so. Butch (although I can't stand him sometimes) is trying to bring a winning mentality back to the program, which I believe he has made great progress. So what if they get rings for winning the MCB. Once we start winning SEC titles and hopefully national titles, we won't have to do this anymore. Until then, let's just let the players enjoy this and know that each season, we are getting better as a program and most importantly no longer have Dooley.

IMO, these 2 things contradict each other...only because (again IMO) a winning mentality doesn't celebrate MCB's at this stage of the game.

After the 2014 season, when UT beat Iowa maybe. It was different. UT was turning the curve. We should be a little further along with this development.

Lowering the bar to receive recognition or reward does nothing to raise the standard to a championship level. Like training a dog, the treat only raises the bar to the minimum for receiving the treat.

And again, it's insulting to previous Volunteers that actually won something of merit. Why does the threshold of greatness change simply because we had some down years?

My 11 year old son (at the time) plays competitive soccer and they finished second in a tournament so they got a 2nd place medal. They had a medal ceremony where they present the medals and they placed the medal around his neck. While my son and some of his teammates were walking back towards the car, he passed a trash can and threw the medal in there.

I had a couple of parents say I needed to control my son for that "disrespectful act".
