Could apathy return if...

Don't punish yourself by spending your money and time elsewhere. Withhold your money from pilot gas stations, isn't that where the decisions are coming from.

Go to games and buy your Vol gear, just buy your gas and coffee from elsewhere.

I've got no problem with avoiding pilot, I won't avoid the games, I'll go as often as I can, come rain or shine.

Go Vols!

It's no punishment for me. I already avoid Pilot.

Once my University represents me with the Administration and Coaching choices it makes, I'll be there. Until then, I quietly pull for them from home, support the young men that play, and spend my time watching my son compete at Maryville College.

If we have another 7/8 win season could the apathy that began to creep in 14 seasons ago come back? That culminated five years later with the '08 season.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndic...lmers-job-at-tennessee-beyond-saving.amp.html

However, during the lucky '07 season things were looking better. That Tennessee football was turning the corner. That apathy had subsided. But, was that only an outter covering of apathy and other major problems.

https://monkeyfire.com/mpol/dir_zine/dir_2004/1403/t_sports.html

So, VN experts and trolls alike, if we have a subpar season similar to last years, will you find something else to do on Saturdays besides traveling to Knoxville?
People complaining about 8-9 win seasons when I remember us winning only 5 games a few short years ago...Let things work itself out and quit feeling so privileged...Butch has won 3 bowl games in a row...No he's not the best coach around but believe me the way this university hires coaches we could be doing a whole lot worse.

I'm just curious....are the self absorbed fans the ones who simply answered the question submitted by the OP, or are they some other nefarious group yet to be identified?

You're not going to be offended by every single post that doesn't agree with you are you?

If you're not happy with the direction the football program is going............leave. There is a message there so long as there aren't others willing and able to take up the slack and buy those seats. I don't think we're there yet. We have a vocal minority of fans that are going to complain unless we win the national championship. What a miserable existence they must live.

And you should go support your son's team regardless of how the Vols are doing.

There's a difference between apathy and protest in my opinion. The lack of attendance during Dooley's last year was more of a protest than apathy. Fans still cared about UT football but just wanted to protest its state and the only way to do so that gets the university's attention is to decrease revenue.

If I got offended at every disagreement on here I would have left years ago. Maybe you value others opinions that much...I do not.

For the record...the minority you refer to are not seeking National Championships, anymore than they were satisfied with 5 wins. Coaching, and playing, to potential regularly is what is sought. I have no problem with 8-9 wins, if that is as good as we are in a given year. But when I see a talented team play up and down to competition regularly, make the same mistakes repeatedly, and put themselves in the position to have breakout seasons, only to fritter them away late, I question the leadership at the top.

The difference in our fanbase is that one side looks back to how bad we were and sees our slight improvement as the promised land, and the other looks forward to what we could/ should be.

And don't worry my friend, I've not missed my son's game or practice in 10 years...I'm not about to stop now.

The games just aren't that enjoyable at the stadium anymore. The seats are too small and it's way too expensive for what you get. Ticket prices are soaring for a product that just isn't worth it for many fans. I have a much better time watching the game downtown at the brewery on tv with a bathroom that is closer and food that is much better. And I don't have someone crowding my seat and another with their knees in my back.

If there is any doubt about the current state of apathy go watch the film from the O&W Game. Bad weather or not, the attendance keeps dropping for Butch's spring circus sideshow production.

The thrill is gone. Butch better win quick and big in 2k17, or we may need an epi-pen to the ticker to wake us up.

He's actually right on the money imo...go rewatch the Peach Bowl against Clemson that year if you want to pinpoint when it started....We were a 10-2 team ranked in the top ten and were disappointed we were back in the same bowl as the year before, and played like it...again. 0-2 to Maryland and Clemson really hurt us, and many of Clausen's detractors point to him having a bad attitude and those 2002-2003 teams as being the starting point of Fulmers decline...I don't think it was all on the iceman, there were a few bad character guys on those teams nobody talks about, as well as a lot of jokesters...but yeah, that is when I saw the bad attitudes and apathy show up in games consistently for the first time.

Don't forget about the absolute butt-whipping we took from Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl in what, 2001? 2002?

I will not go back to the O&W "game" until they actually make it a GAME again. This bull**** they're doing now, I don't even know what it is. A glorified practice I guess. I feel like I'm watching the freaking Battle of the Network Stars or something.

I don't think 6-6 will get him fired. We are stuck with him through 2018 unless we are 5-7 or less which won't happen. A Bowl game gets him another year, Unless Gruden is on the table! Buy out is way too much!!!

I agree or God forbid, some kind of scandal. I don't think that will happen,it's just 5 or less wins or a scandal that may cost him his job this year.

Apathy has no eligibility left... was benched a long time ago... since then left the team and Knoxville.

Enthusiasm is here now... will be in the line up at the start of the season, playing both ways.

I remember sitting in the endzone and I swear Houston was running to get tackled! Hole big enough for a Toyota to literally drive through and he kept running into blocked line men. He fumbled and Clausen just stood there and stared at the ball. Fulmer kept complaining about not getting a New Years day bowl. That's when I knew we were in trouble. Everytime he complained about something we got beat!

Actually, after the '01 season, apathy set in!

Currie said upfront that UT athletic programs could and should be championship caliber and are currently underachieving. IDT any coach gets a free pass next year, especially not those in revenue sports. I'm sure Butch Jones, Rick Barnes and Holly Warlick will all be expected to win at a higher level.

I do not feel apathy. However, I do find myself disgusted at times.

I can understand this feeling. This still requires passion. Apathy like BORO VOL mentions makes it sound like you have to earn his support. Hope your kids don't ever fail so you won't be apathetic toward them. I want people who will stick with me thru good and bad times. No time for apathetic people. They tend to be pathetic.
