Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXIII

Any talk of the hot seat or how important a season this is for Butch Jones boils down to one thing for me, and that's his contract situation.

Currently, Jones's deal runs through the 2020 season, meaning after this season he'll have three seasons left on it. That's not an ideal scenario for any coach to operate in. Every rival would be pointing that out on the recruiting trail.

Thus it'd seem there would have to be a decision on Jones one way or the other, because you can't put him in a position where he's recruiting with an arm tied behind his back -- that's no good for anyone.

I suppose there's a chance Jones's contract situation could be addressed before the season. Certainly you'd think Jones and his agent, Trace Armstrong, would like it to be, but it'll be interesting to see what happens. I can't speak to if there have been any discussions about it.

Perhaps the best-case scenario for both sides is a one-year extension with minimal changes to the financials, but who knows how feasible that is.

Amid the perception (or reality?) this is a make-or-break year, recruiting seems to be going well right for the Vols, and Jones has a handful of new coaches on his staff he can sell as changes made to fix what went wrong in 2016.

John Currie really hasn't said much about his thoughts on Jones since taking over as Tennessee's athletic director, so it's hard to get a feel on where he is on the football coach he's inheriting.

I don't think much will come from the Josh Smith situation from the weekend. In fact I think it could get resolved rather quickly, though you hesitate to say that with anything regarding the legal system. Based on what I've heard I'd be surprised if the charges aren't dropped, then Smith can put the incident behind him and focus on his final season.

Other than davis, who are the DE's were after? Assuming Emerson will be a DT, I haven't seen to much about defensive ends in this class

Sure Jim. We can go with that for now.

First, how do so many of you know what McElwain's bare ass looks like?

Second, LOL, I don't care if it's him or not, I am just glad something like this is happening to somebody else's coach.

Regardless if that is him or not somebody better make that into a sign and bring it to the swamp this season.

If Gameday happens to be on-site for a Florida game (at Gainesville, or an away game...which would be even better), I'd expect there to be some high-level signs off of this.

Here are the revenue figures of the top earners for the SEC during the period:

No. 2 Tennessee – $107.1 million
No. 3 Alabama – $103.9 million
No. 7 Auburn – $92.5 million
No. 8 Georgia – $87.6 million
No. 10 LSU – $85.7 million
No. 11 Florida – $83.8 million
No. 13 Texas A&M – $73.7 million
No. 16 Arkansas – $68.9 million
No. 20 South Carolina – $59.6 million
No. 21 Ole Miss – $56.8 million

The school which ranked No. 1 on the list was Texas, with a revenue of $127.5 million. Imagine how much profit that school could make if it had a football program capable of beating Kansas on the gridiron.
