He's an ESPN anchor, he was doing a show with Finebaum about SEC players in the draft. He asked Paul which player was in the best situation to have success in the NFL. Paul said Derek Barnett for a number of reasons. Then Matt Barrie says, "They could be talking about one of the best 'Line backers' in the NFL as we go through his career, 3,4,5 years down the road."

Why a machine gun? There's a lot of speculation that Barnett winds up at LB

He had really good coverage skills for a DE, so it wouldn't surprise me one single bit to see him moved to OLB

I'd be surprised if he moved to LB in Jim Schwartz's wide-9 scheme. If Philly still ran a 3-4 D, then I'd believe it more.

Speaking of Barnett, I was disappointed in his choice of color suit. Reminded me of Alabama color :yuck:

Look forward to watching him in NFL though!!!!!!!!!

This is the first time I've ever heard of Barnett playing LB. Please show me one analyst who thought he'd be a 3-4 LB.

Not saying hes never dropped into coverage, but hes 260+

A 260 lb LB that can drop into coverage? Yeah, someone was thinking about it.

I personally think he will be a DE though. Maybe a package or two with him in at LB (maybe short yardage, when they want big bodies in the middle?).

Agree. He's not a 3-4 linebacker, he's a 4-3 DE

We could have used a couple of 260 LBs against Nebraska several years ago in the bowl game. Our LB's were built for the speed in the SEC and Nebraska literally RAN OVER THEM the entire second half. It was a hard thing to watch...

From NFL.com:

His awareness and play traits should keep him near the action and he has the talent to step into a starting base end spot right away. There could be coordinators who view him as an early down, outside backer in a 3-4 with the ability to put his hand in the ground on sub packages.

I agree that he should be a DE, but there were a number of analysts speculating 3-4 outside LB was where he would end up. Eagles don't run a 4-3 though.

Is this really as big of a deal as you are trying to make it out to be? Really?

I can just hear Barnett now: "Geez, the insult, the disrespect, some ESPN guy referred to me as a linebacker.... Can you believe it?"

Maybe a little bit too much time on your hands?

The Eagles run Wide 9. Whether you call Barnett a DE, OLB, Jack, LEO etc, he'll be the guy playing 9 technique and speed rushing the bejeezus out of everybody.

Yes it was hard to watch, and Nebraska's Oline was Caucasian:good!:
