Coleman Thomas could be a late round guy with a good year IMO

Hasn't quite put it all together yet but he's versatile and very athletic for his size. One of those guys who could make some strides going into his senior year.

According to the last few rumors I read, Jashon could be taking his job. Thomas could be odd man out on the OL.

Wow, they must have killed it this year.

Unfortunately they kind of struggled this season. They lost in the Final Four the two previous seasons and were preseason #2 this year. They benched their All Conference QB for a Louisville transfer prior to the season and they kind of fell apart. The coach left for a D1 OC job, but they hired the old Valdosta State coach that has 2 national titles.

Please explain to me what your talking about?

Just go back and watch our OL, way too often they take their first step the wrong way, or they'll double team one guy and another runs straight through. They just didn't know the plays or assignments as well as upperclassmen with 3 years in a system should.

O line hasn't been a strength during the Jones era.

Some of its coaching, some of its talent, some of it is depth and some of its youth. Hoping we've finally gotten past all those problems.

We don't know what their assignments are....
it's really easy to play the blame game without knowing all the peices to the puzzle....
I don't think it was the assignments as much as the technqiue and attitude of the line... and yes the attitude goes on the O-Line coach...

Was a good draft for UT. Proud of our captains this year. Wasn't the year that most expected, but was still a year that can keep us moving forward - despite the fact that we were riddled with injuries, including losing three of the four captains (honestly think this may have influenced Malone's decision at least a little bit). These guys have been a big part of our program's rebuilding, and I'm glad they have an opportunity to shine at the next level. Go Vols!

I know for a fact that their assignment is not to let a DL run completely free while they double team someone or stand there not blocking anyone. I don't know which guy was supposed to get him, but I know one of them missed an assignment, and it happened way too often.

And I know for a fact that when everyone steps one way on a run play except one guy, and the guy across from him tackles our rb for a loss, that was a wrong step.

Our whole OL was clueless, wasn't just him. I put that on coaching. Almost every blown play was because an OL messed up, not because he was quick or strong enough. Jashon still has to show out this coming year though or he won't get drafted imo

IMO YO is always taking a subtle shot at anything UT. I know you are a true fan but you have become the most pessimistic non troll fan in the RF. It is getting to be quite pathetic.

Old David Dean. I played against him as a kid my first year of football. We played at Midway.

Jashon at C is 100% because of Colman not being healthy. He is not 'taking his job'

You may know more about it than I do, but that's not the way I took it when I read it on Basilio and another report from spring but can't remember which one. What I read made it sound more like getting the best five on the field, and that did not include Thomas.

Thomas is athletic but has never gotten the kind of push a center should get, imo. With what we've heard about how Wells wants the OL to play I can definitely see him being the odd man out and had heard rumors of that before CT had the emergency appendectomy.

Thomas is a very good center but he is not a good tackle. You apparently listen to Basilio and that can confuse your thinking. The first and last time I listened to him, it was evident that he is/was a troll and likes to stir the pot.

Not trying to add fuel to the fire, but this point is so true. I invite anybody to just roll the App State tape and see what 3+ years of O-line coaching and player development accomplished. App ran a disciplined, quick defense with a 250 lbs. NT of which their players were well trained and prepared. Stopped the O in its tracks. Our guys were totally lost.

After 4 years of Butch's buddy as O-line coach, Debord with his decades of quality experience at coaching that group up, and Butch himself - they achieved OK performance. Each player they sign and develop was highly recruited by quality competition. Top recruiting, S&C, and player development are all major factors to performance. The separator in performance is the system/schemes, if the program has the first three. If they can't execute it, you get what you see. If only elite players can perform well in your system, you have a major problem. Hopefully Butch will give Coach Scott authority to make the necessary changes and Coach Wells can get them done.

Thomas is quick and good at pull blocking. But he doesn't have the strength a senior center should have. He gets bull rushed too often. And when he's not pulling, his footwork is atrocious.
