Because the reality of Dobbs' legs being a 'safety valve' on options plays that were blown up before he could even hand off or pass the ball due to a nonexistent offensive line, is so far from the fantasy you are proposing, in that CBJ/Debord tailored the playbook because Dobbs was a phenom at escaping busted plays, that it's comical.
If rewriting history is what it takes to defend CBJ at this point, then I can only imagine what the narrative will be at the end of 2017.
I am not defending CBJ. I am just explaining what you cannot seem to understand. This offense is designed for the QB to run only a few times a game to keep the defensive ends and outside linebackers honest. CBJ and Debord called many designed runs for Dobbs because of his natural running abilities.
Your dislike for CBJ does not allow you to give him or his staff any credit for their use of Dobbs as a runner. Every run by Dobbs was not a broken play. The majority of Dobbs' runs were designed. If anything I would criticize CBJ and staff for not running Dobbs more.
As noted above, lefevour had more runs than Dobbs. Was that not the wild-lyle offense?
Lefevour ran 12.7 times per game in his career and Dobbs ran 11.8 times per game in his career. These are exceptions and not the norm for this offense. This offense is not designed to allow QBs to take this many hits. Fortunately both QBs avoided injury for the most part and were durable enough to be able to withstand the punishment of carrying so many times as a QB.
I will admit that I had forgotten about Lefevour running so much. He was such a physical QB. Dobbs was a little more efficient than Lefevour averaging 4.9 per carry to Lefevour's 4.4 per carry. With Dobbs averaging 58 yards per game to Lefevour's 55 yards per game.
Terrifying every time your QB gets hit, moreso when you call a play designed to get him hit. That's a tough balance.
I think they should have run Dobbs more. Not a lot more, but I believe in a few games they thought we did not need to run him to win and it hurt us. It almost cost us the Appy State game. A running QB needs a rhythm and needs to take hits. But if he had gotten hurt everyone would have blamed CBJ for running him too much.

I'm surprised he never got an HC gig.
He had an opportunity or two he could have taken, the best may have been the Rutgers job but he decided to stay with Davies. Mullen and Urban ask him to join them almost every year but hip and back pain limit what he can do so he was forced to cut back a lot of the traveling.
Football all over the family. My cousin is director of pro personnel with the colts, another cousin just married a raiders coach and is currently working for the wcc. In the movie "draft day" Jennifer garner followed around my cousin to study for the part, at that time megan was in charge of the cap for the browns, then she left and another family member got that job...his title is now "director of football operations" with the browns.
From the Browns, to raiders to colts there is a lot of Vol love near them at all times.

Jennifer Garner bragging about my cousin was just awesome.
