SEC East Champs

McElwain got a butt whipping from Harbaugh in his first bowl game for the Gators. If he returns the favor against Michigan, with at least a win, I see Florida getting it done once again. Georgia needs the answer at QB not running back. They recruited the OL position very well and should gel as the season progresses. But Smart, for his own credibility, needs a strong 2nd place showing in the east.

It's going to happen. Florida's defense is rapidly regressing and depth is a MAJOR concern. Mac's offenses are awful and the guy is recruiting Zaire from ND since he can't develop the QBs he initially signs. Offense has a few playmakers but QB will dictate everything.

Georgia is very young. Eason is a future #1 pick but he has no offensive line. RBs are solid but injury riddled and Georgia always finds a way to ruin their season one way or another. Their defense is also soft and their line isn't as mature as deep as ours.

Barring injuries this offense could be very good. Our oline could dominate the 2 schools I mentioned above. UT has 6-8 solid guys on the OLine and idk if either of those schools will be able to slow down, Jelly. Over the course of the games our OLine could wear down the defenses while we still have a solid 2-3 backups in case starters need a breath.

The OLine has cost us a few games the last few years but I believe this year it could be the exact opposite.

10-2 SEC East Champs. Wait on it.

Wait how long?
Last year was to be the year.
Fla and Ga, Seems they figure out how to finish the year ahead of us even if the beat them. (no bama, and they beat the other guys in the east we tend to stumble against just enough to finish third or worst.

I really really really want to believe this but it's just really hard at this point. If this does happen it would mean 3 things. JG or QD had a breakout season and lit up the SEC, and John Kelly and JJ had 1,000 yard dominating seasons and our defense remained mostly healthy the whole season.

I see losses to Georgia and Florida this year. I think our defense will be slightly worse than last year. The offense might have the potential to be better but not likely. The only thing I see being better is the OL. I just dont see how we have the team to win the East.

And of course factor in that IF we were to win the East, it would mean another game against Alabama most likely. And well, we know how those games turn out with Saban at the helm.

I can't believe anybody is buying into any sort of expectations for this team after what we witnessed last year. Lets get past Tech first.

Right. Couldn't win it with a slew of NFL players on the roster. This bunch of dupe coaches will probably go 10-2 so we can continue to languish with CBJ another year with our luck.

Lost to USC on bye week with division on line.
Lost to Vandy with Sugar on line.

I'm extremely confident.

Well hopefully we've had plenty of time to learn from those mistakes and correct them so that we don't repeat them. As many negatives and adversities as there were last season, there were plenty more positives to build upon for this upcoming season in my opinion.
Losses are painful for all of us and especially when something's on the line like you said. Hopefully the powers that be have done and will do whatever it takes to use them as learning experiences and turn those same situations into wins next time.

I know we have question marks, but so does every other team that will compete for the division title this year. Florida's defense is similar to our defense's lately. Talented when healthy but no depth or proven starters. They are razor thin on defense and unless they stay healthy the entire season could be tough for them.

As for offense- has Mac even had the same QB stay starter for at least 2 years since he's been at UF? The guy doesn't seem to know how to develop QBs and that's why he's going after his 3-4th grad transfer this spring. That tells me he's desperate and I would be too, look at the offenses he had fielded. All of his success is bc of Muschump's defensive recruits.

As for Georgia I may have been a tad biased, however, Chubb is injury prone and Eason will need more than a TE and 1 WR to beat us IMO. There offensive line was dreadful last year and I think that is the X-Factor in this matchup. Also, if we dominate dominate the line of scrimmage (which I believe we will) we can chew the clock and make them one dimensional.

Barring injury this OLine and OLine depth will take us a little further than people think.

Do you known who our DT's were in those games? And LBs?

Oddly enough the negativity will be helpful this off season. I don't like the hype-train, it sets teams up for underachieving years. The 16 team came into fall camp under prepared (o-line soft and out of shape). Living the off-season being ridiculed will guarantee the opposite will be true. Speaking of being prepared for a season, if you don't want to experience an epidemic of injuries, what your team will need is stamina!!! fatigue and injury go hand in hand. Did we think it was coincidence that after a string of high intensity games that it would be that 5 hour game at A&M when players began dropping out like flies? It may sound strange but that's why i was a nega when we were 5-0 and people were getting Butch cuts. It was a matter of time before this team would break. that is what i hope we get from Rock, stamina.

As far as losing some of our bright shinny pieces, I can't help but to believe that we've been out of the loop so long that normal seems abnormal. For example. Many people believe that we have been every bit as talented as FL the last couple of seasons. Yet FL has sent 15 players to to nfl draft the last two seasons. So we can't panic the first season 5 or 6 players leave the team for the draft. It does not add up unless we just pinned all our hope on this one season and then fall back into the abyss of mediocrity. But that is why I love college football. Its where the stars are born, they come here as boys and leave as men( except Trey Smith, he's no boy). So while we love them when they reach stardom, lets not take our eyes off the rest of the 22.

Remember the last time we rode into a season on the hype train. It was 05 and we were pre-season ranked no.3. Urban Meyer could not keep his OSU all star team from under achieving and then setting a record for first round draft choices, then having his young rebuilt team in 16 out perform the his 15 juggernaut. History is full of loaded teams that under perform when the lights are to bright just to have their underlines out perform them next season with a chip on their shoulder. Its very real. Its college football. So having question marks and being unpredictable is what makes it fun. And if its not fun then why are we here anyway? It certainly makes talking season fun.

Georgia's loaded and Florida will be better this year, but don't sleep on SC because Butch has never won against Muschamp.....oh my, could the Vols finish 4th in the east?

Missouri says the Vols finish 5th in the east? What?:hi:

More than most seasons the east seems to be about matchups.

Georgia has a chance to be good but how long will it take their Oline to get better. They have a great Oline coach and good very young players. The team that runs the ball best, and keeps the ball wins this game. I hope we have healthy RBs and DTs for this game. Will our QB progress faster than their Oline? If our Oline is tougher overall improved and we can keep the ball we win. I see this game determined by a turnover. 50/50 game.

Florida has good skill players and I believe they will find a QB. I hope our new coaches can fix our pass defense. I do think their D is thin but we play early in the season to their advantage. Again 50/50.

I see our offense improving through the season. Barring a lot on DLine injuries I think we beat SC KY UM and Vandy. The offense should be rolling by then. We May loose one of these because there are no easy wins in college football and crap happens.

I see us loosing to Al and LSU. Just too much talent on these teams.

I see 4 losses for us and we finish second in the east to Ga or Fl.

We use to get lots of tv coverage for playing Bama, helps recruiting etc. But all the games are on tv now and we don't need the automatic loss. It will cost us the east over and over again. Even the if we win the east we play a second time. I don't see us making the playoffs that way.

The Vols play GT in ATL, @UF and UGA in the first month. Since those are 3 key swing games, we'll have a good idea how the season's going to go by the end of Sept.

So wait... The inference here seems to be that you... a Vol fan... would be disappointed in a good (10-2) year next year?

That'll show us, I guess... Good on you, bro.

If the goal is to win the SECe, it doesn't matter how many games the Vols win as long as they win enough games to win the division. If the program goal is to win championships, winning the East and getting to the SECCG is where it starts.

Gators went into spring practice worried about the defense and came out worried about the offense.

You don't have muschamp defensive depth anymore bro. Your 1st stringers are solid but what about behind that? Lots of players who have yet to prove anything or to play a snap of D1 ball.

Isn't Mac an offensive guy?

Yes. And I know we scored a total of like 3 offensive points after halftime total games. Stop the Excuse making. Makes Jones think it's ok to suck.
We actually scored more in the second half of the USC game than we did in the first. It's 2017, use google lol

The combined # of points we gave up to Vandy, UK, and Missouri is UNACCEPTABLE. We should have lost all three games. Yes, yes Butch isn't a great coach we all know that, Shirley.

There is a massive difference between depth and just being a bad coach. You can't win consistently in the SEC without defensive tackles. We have Vickers, Picou (who got bumped around like a pinball) and converted DE Jonathon Kongbo. Be logical. This is the best conference in the nation where the line of scrimmage is everything.
