United Airlines New Seating Chart

Where's Putin? :)

These are incredible - this one is a meme based on a meme that as based on a meme.

How silly and stupid that one man being dragged off a United Airlines flight becomes the biggest story around the country. And no matter where you stand on what United did, the fact that we have Members of Congress now calling for government hearings & a government solution is beyond ridiculous.

Congress doesn't need to stick its damn nose into everything!!! Not everything demands a government answer.

Are you serious? Government hearings over this mess?

Good grief.

It's just virtue signaling and a chance for their constituencies to see their Congressperson's name attached to a viral video.

Agree with you there. This is actually the worst thing I've heard about the whole sorry affair. Obviously, whoever is suggesting that Congress look into it is just trying to get some free favorable publicity.

$1600 would have gotten someone off that plane and on its way without a peep.

For $800 United lost $1B in market cap today. Sound business move.

agree but market cap is temporary and a paper loss.

the real loss will show up in the extra cash they spend on PR/Advertising; the impending litigation and loss in flight revenue over the near term while this thing still has legs.

What are the odds that the corporate big wigs across the industry will learn from this in any meaningful way?

Munoz didn't.

I wouldn't want to own United stock.

In other words, this guy is a lowlife scumbag who is gonna cash in because his temper tantrum went viral via a faux outrage social media mob.

Ehh, just another case of ***holes being ***holes to ***holes. Doesn't make any of them less ***holey.

It's not a paper loss if any stock in their Treasury is floated to raise cash. It can also hit the top executives hard if their awarded stock options have to be exercised while the stock price is depressed... which would appropriate and a good thing.

Clearly, as you've said, the real damage is to the brand. Northwest Airlines never got the taint off of their name after the drunk pilots incident.

So a guy makes a mistake nearly 14 years ago and he's a scumbag? Got it.

I imagine you've never gotten a ticket or anything huh?

Also, you can imagine how this is playing out in China where United is trying to grow their market share. Guess those plans have gone up in flames.

I haven't flown in nearly 30 years and don't see that changing anytime soon. I obviously don't understand how the racket works, but how does a flight get overbooked anyway? Do they not have the ability to track which seats have and have not been sold already?

everyone overbooks counting on cancellations or late arrivals, last minute changes etc to even it out. better in there minds to risk overbooking than having an empty seat.

The airlines have reduced flights to the point where everyone of them is full. They over sell each flight because they figure x percent won't show up for whatever reason. They bail their asses out by offering a coupon good towards a credit for a future flight for people to volunteer to take a later flight. Most of the times someone takes it when they get to a high enough dollar offer.
In this case $800 was all United was willing to offer and they couldn't get anyone to agree. UAL is a crap airline and I think I've flown my last flight on them. A hundred or two is not going to break me.
