Look out for Matsuyama in the next few years. Highest rated player in 2017 (4th) without a major and only 25.

IMO, for the older PGA guys still on tour - Westwood is the best to have never won. Monty was in his day - glad he never did. For the younger guys, Fowler like AV said. He has unlimited potential, but needs to finish it off between the ears. I think he will fairly soon. Kuch is not at his level talent wise. He's more of a Steve Stricker type player that can win some tournaments, but not quite enough game to finish off a major unless the big guns are having off days at the same time. Sergio should have won long before now except for his lack of confidence with putting. He is seriously good from tee to green.

But in reality, this was Dustin Johnson's major to win. He's at a different level than everybody else now.

Tidbits from Saturday Scrimmage:

JG and QD split all the reps with the 1s.
Jennings, Callaway, and L. Williams were the 1's WR
Williams also returned some punts and kicks.
Trey Smith started with 1s at RT (Looked very good, moved very well)
Sherion jones once again threw the ball very well with the 2s.
Kongbo went down, but I havent heard any serious updates. he will probably be shutdown the rest of the spring.
Mikel Osborne started at CB with the 1s and struggled on callaway and jennings.

big improvement as a whole from scrimmage #1, this was a very physical scrimmage. tackling as a whole looked pretty good from the D

Hopefully we will get an update on Kongbo-- Shoop a bit cryptic last night but I don't think anything serious.... Why was Byrd not with the 1's at WR? Not sure if he is dinged up or not? Everyone will agree we need to maximize this kid's potential and not waste it...

So JJ, Williams and Calloway were starting receivers on Saturday. Not a lot of collective experience besides JJ but man the potential is huge there. With Williams and Calloway seeming to step up this camp, I am excited to watch the receivers at the spring game. Add in Byrd and we could have a young nucleus that gets better and better as the season goes on next year.

From hearing the reports of Byrd as 2nd string slot makes me think the move to the secondary could happen sooner rather than later.

Our WR rotation slimmed down last yr and should be similar this year. With Smith and Johnson out and the incoming freshman not on campus yet and Osborne (from reports) struggling why not move Byrd back.

Murphy, Palmer and Jones will be on campus soon as well. At least one of those guys will likely be a factor this fall. My money is on Palmer, he's already 200+lbs, and I think he was underrated. I think the other two will need some time to add weight but hopefully they already are and will be ready to go. JMO

It's inly been a few clips but something about Callaway just looks like he is ready to explode in the scene at WR this year

Saw it in camp last August. Different level from all the other young talent at receiver. There's speed, then there is football player speed with the moves and desire to catch the football. That's Callaway. Practices really hard and takes extra reps.

1. Is no one else surprised that Williams is getting 1st team reps at slot over Byrd? Even if it was just for one scrimmage, that seems surprising to me.

2. Any update on if Murphy or Fant will qualify?

i also believe Palmer is going to be a very good WR

Is Murphy gonna make it?

I agree, he definitely has a chance to work in the rotation. Palmer is smooth. Thought he was a nice get for Butch late in the recruiting process.

The best part about our WR group right now is JJ is obviously the clear leader of that pack and I really hope the young receivers are following his lead. It would be huge if JJ's work ethic rubs off on the other WRs.

That is true. It does not, however, exceed the fear that Trey Smith will miss critical reps in practice to attend his prom.

The fear..... is real. :scare:
